I’m just beyond delusional dream and into reality that after 8 years might be able to begin planning to pull together actual TAT trip. This was one of the most practical and realistic reviews of the trail I have viewed thus far. Lots of questions as to GPS, size of motorcycle ( entry level) and least amount of time off from work that would give me a shot at most all the trail. Talking points I need yet to cover for sure. Nicely done and helpful for sure.

Great summary of the highs and lows of the TAT. Two buddies and I rode the western half, Pueblo, CO to Corvallis, OR last July... what an epic adventure. You're absolutely right about the unique things you experience and see and even more unique people you meet along the way. Can't wait to edit and share our ride.

Thanks for sharing your experience on the TAT. I'm planning to ride CO to OR during the first week of August this year. I guess you followed Sam's track since you were describing about your Idaho experience. I bought Sam's GPX files and I can see motels and gas stations along the way. Are these enough or did you have to ride off from his route for gas or for night stays?I'm not able to measure the true distance between waypoints on Sam's track and was wondering how did you plan a day's ride using his track?

Yes . Sam’s are the best

Do you have a complete listing of accessories and gear you used on the DR-Z? What did you like/dislike, what would you change next time? Who makes the windscreen and how did it work? Good video!

Did you feel like a 90/10 tire was a necessity? Or would a 50/50 be good to go?
@GIDDYUPADVENTURES2 жыл бұрын
You know the first time I did it we had 50/50 tires and at times (Colorado/Utah) we needed more aggressive tread
@andrewg3672 жыл бұрын
@@GIDDYUPADVENTURES thank you. I think we will plan to change tires in Colorado like most seem to be doing.

There's a different one for bikes but I do think Sarah Swallow did this on a bike. Google her name and trans America trail.

Did you make any mods to the carburetor on the drz I have the same bike was wondering if the stock carburetor did well at high elevation
@GIDDYUPADVENTURES2 жыл бұрын
So having done the passes on 2 Drzs, and traveling with others on Drz - no problems whatsoever. The only one with problems was our buddy who rejetted his klr.

I have a DR350SE and have ridden it extensively including most all of the high mountain passes in Colorado. I weigh 350 lbs and it has hauled my butt up the worst of those passes with no problems at all. I did chainge my front sproket one tooth for more low end grunt because of my weight, but it runs perfectly from sea level to 14,000 feet. I have made no changes to my carb from stock and have never done any changes in the jets from factory. My buddy has a Yamaha XT250 which is fuel injected and his bike backfires above about 11,000 feet when he lets off the gas. Otherwise both bikes have hauled us all over the place. We usually base our riding out of Tincup, Taylor Lake,, Ouray or Silverton, CO. All great spots with loads of riding.

@@GIDDYUPADVENTURES Yea, they are real work horses. No fancy do-dads, but just plain tanks that just keep on ticking. I put a Russell Day Long Saddle on mine as the seat was just not comfortable for my size, but otherwise it is stock.
