I don't think the word "edgy" has ever been used for MCR, at least not by anyone who was around at the time. They have all the edge of a fkn banana 😆 Marketing genius though, the way they took a Smashing Pumpkins chorus, dressed it in a black school uniform, and sold it to a generation of early internet disciples who were consistently given everything they needed and wanted, apart from parental attention. It's also kinda funny (and kinda sad, and *very* telling) when you see the old emo kids popping up every now and then on comments pages and whatnot (their natural habitat), and they still have the same insecurities that ruled them as 13 year olds. In 20 years, some of them are gonna be politicians n sht. *Then* we'll be sorry, I s'pose. Sorry, was that a bit harsh? Fk it. Voice of reality. My gut says "POST" 😆

@@theanticitizen The "being sad abiut girls" part is the entire point of...one of their albums. Can't remember if it's Bullets or Three Cheers. He has to kill a certain number of bad people in the world, and when he's eliminated all but one of those "bad people," he realizes that he is the last bad person. With AC/DC Bon Scott was also very Philsophical and emotional in poetic ways with his songwriting such as "Ride On", "Overdose", "Night Prowler", "Its A Long Way To The Top", "Aint No Fun (Waiting Round To Be A Millionaire), "Down Payment Blues", "Gone Shootin'" "Gimme A Bullet", "Touch Too Much" among many more that aren't simply about dirty stuff. He also incorporated suspense into his writing and storytelling such as on "Jailbreak" and "Night Prowler". I like to view him as an artistic way as that's what he was a true poet. An example is the early song "Love Song" which features some absolutely beautiful lyricism and clever similies alongside metaphors, or "Night Prowler" which sound quite different than other songs they released. Bon could also use wordplay and clever metaphors to compare a topic of a song in a humorous way (The card game in the song "The Jack" which is about well...catching the jack.), writing about the hardships of being in a band, along with writing ballads such as "Ride On" which is about loneliness and depression of a ruined relationship from alcohol. He could be poetic on other songs too like "Ride On", "Down Payment Blues", "Gone Shootin'", "Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round To Be A Millionaire)" and plenty of others too like "Love Song" Bon Scott was a lyrical genius writer!

Some would say that ,,Love song" lyrics are corny but I really don't give a damn, Bon sings it from the heart. I also think that people who say all AC/DC songs sound the same mean the Brian era (and the most popular songs of that era). I still love them with Brian and I still don't think their songs sound the same but they definitely were more diverse with Bon. Just take ,,Soul Stripper" for example which doesn't sound like your typicall AC/DC at all. But hey, strict formula and the simple recognizable style are what we love them for so 🤷🏻‍♀️

With Bon they were also just better musically for me. AC/DC had that really raw power which was great and sadly ceased to exist in the 80s. It was that wildness that got me into loving them once and even though many songs sounds very similiar or primitive, there's somethin to it that keeps you entertained. It's the soul. Soul which they lost with Bon's death.

I feel like there could be a whole video on the ups and downs of GnR.. Appetite for Destruction is such a legendary and memorable hard rock album and feels so fresh compared to what most rock bands were releasing in the late 80's. Izzy's songwriting and rhythm playing are heads and shoulders above what GnR could produce after he left the band. Slash is probably one of the most recognizable and iconic guitar players in the world. The drumming/bass playing off of Appetite is so groovy and bluesy, Adler is criminally underrated IMO. And then on the downsides there is an avalanche of drama, drug abuse, general prima donna bullshittery, obnoxious attitude and personalities, and Axl generally just ruining everything post 90's era. You're so right to say that they should've just called it quits after Use Your Illusion, and even then I think they were losing everything special about the band.

On god! They're easily one of the most influential rock bands to young people, I've heard someone call them this generation's Queen before and given the reception to their most recent tour, shit I'd believe it. Their music is so well thought-out and often mind-bogglingly hard. Ray Toro and Frank Iero are easily of the greatest guitar/songwriting duos of all time, and along with Gerard Way's genuinely crazy visions, art direction, costume, concepts, lyric work - it all just works out in this crazy grandiose way. MCR is awesome, I'm sick of hearing people trash on them because of the fandom/scene they were associated with. Even comparing them to other pop-emo bands of the time they stand out like a sore thumb. I genuinely feel like they haven't put out a bad album yet, either. Like no shit sherlock, of course not everyone is going to reach that same level as he did. honestly i'm kind of tired that people hold him on a pedestal of some sort, and they go full gatekeeping mod when someone says that another artist is the best singer (which is highly subjective imo)

Pros - They had some of the best vocal harmonies in rock history, they have barely any filler songs in their classic albums, they had great acoustic songs in all of their albums unlike other bands that include one or two acoustic ballads because their producers force them to, Layne and Jerry had one of the best voices and guitar tone respectively in all of rock history, and they managed to put out some good songs after reuniting Cons - Layne's addiction basically stopped the bands' momentum starting from the year 1996 until they decided to reunite with a different singer 14 years later, they should have renamed the band after Layne's death since they don't feel like the same band anymore (although I understand why Cantrell wouldn't want to do that), their 3 albums post Layne are repetitive because some of the songs are so similar they just blend into a mush, and in hindsight it seems like they are the most overlooked band out of the big 4 grunge bands despite being the best one next to Soundgarden

I mean, I appreciate the absolute revolution they brought to music, but from what I've heard of their stuff, it's not really my thing. AC/DC: Definitely agree. No one does plain and simple rock n' roll like them. Lynyrd Skynyrd: Yeah, I never loved Free Bird for that reason. Alter Bridge: Yet another reminder I need to listen to more of their stuff. Kiss: I can agree with the latter - Kiss to me feel like it's more about the image than the music. King Crimson: Yep, ItCotCK is timeless - even now, it still sounds incredibly unique. And yeah, the late career stuff can be a challenge to get through (looking at you, Construkction of Light), but there's some gems in there if you persist - Dinosaur, Walking on Air and Level Five are three favourites of mine. Rainbow: Aye.

0:38 their music is heavily overused in media, which becomes anoying after a while. No kidding, love this band but several times I've had to 'take rests'

Oh? It's the quite the opposite for me, everytime I hear Queen I get excited, but it's just that Queen's music is kinda fitting for certain types of media, like "We are the Champions" "You're my Best Friend" "Don't stop me Now" and etc. Or maybe just cus I don't hear Queen alot in media all the time and that's why I always get excited.

Queen’s negatives to me are the excess of pompousness and the lack of cohesion in their songs.
@Noaher256
@Noaher256 Жыл бұрын
I think the lack of cohesion is a positive The songs all have a distinct style to them because Freddie would get super bored if they did the same thing over and over. They all have a similar vibe that’s recognizable as Queen but they’re all so different that anyone can find something they like from them. You like a good hard stadium filling song? Hammer To Fall. Want a calm and beautiful ballad? Love Of My Life. Good motivation? Don’t Stop Me Now and We Are The Champions. Something to get your body moving? Another One Bites The Dust, so on. I think the pompousness just comes with the fame, or Freddie just being Freddie

Muse has long been one of my favorite bands. I'm kind of surprised the voice was your pick. While he does a lot of pretentious wailing and vibrato, I think my primary pet peeve are the lyrics. For writing such grand, bombastic glam-rock-esque music, the lyrics are usually cheesy and boring compared to other songwriters of similar caliber. I don't know, it's hard to show people how cool they are when the lyrics just feel uncomfortably cheesy and immature. Still my favorite band and likely always will be.

@@emmyjemmy4208 i feel like some of their songs have moved towards a more “pop”-y genre, especially on WotP with Compliance. i still love em to death honestly, but it’s a very different style from the albums they released pre-2010’s.

Awesome! And I can suggest at least two reasons to hate Queen: 1. There are only so many times you can listen to... any of their songs. At some point, you just start puking uncontrollably at the first chords of... any of their songs. You just can't... can't anymore... 2. Every one of your 80+ year-old relatives starts a Christmas table conversation with you by saying "You listen to rock music, huh? I love it too. I love Queen".

Idk about the first one... yeah, the hits get really overplayed and annoying after a while, but some of their less well known songs, like Liar and '39, at least to me, could never get old. And you gotta admit, when you hear Bohemian Rhapsody start playing in the radio, yeah, you wanna puke, but you'll start singing nonetheless. Every. Single. Time.

I always thought the worst part about Rage Against the Machine is how completely counterintuitive it is to be an anti-capitalist, anti-war, counter-culture, socialist band advocating for complete social upheaval... while profiting off of marketing, packaging, and selling that message in a capitalist market while providing precisely nothing to society but catharsis for angsty teens. They seem quite happy to be living in the USA while making money off their major recording contracts and licensing of their music. The fact that they ever even signed to a major label speaks volumes to their authenticity (they have none). Their antics are just that- a show. If they're real socialists, then John Cena is a real fighter.

after reading through this comment, I'm kinda curious what else they could do like, their music sent a message that was more than catharsis, it was informative and piqued interest in a lot of modern political issues. idk, i know i wouldn't have known much about leonard peltier without them. i do agree that their net worths are a tad hypocritical, though.

OK, I can tell something slightly negative about Queen. As a big fan of the band. Freddie was an amazing singer and frontman, that's for sure, but sometimes his operatic delivery gets... not annoying, no, but kinda tiresome. That's why I sometimes lean to the songs where Roger and Brian sang the lead vocals. Especially Brian - not the strongest singer, but his melancholic voice is very captivating.

1:08 Personal opinion: I think that the WORST of Pearl Jam is how their lyrics have worsen through the years, and how messy the line distribution has gotten in recent albums. The first albums of Pearl Jam are masterpieces and the lyrics are beautiful; they still release some beautiful songs to this day, but they also become a bit of annoying cuz there are very few pauses to listen to the melody. It’s difficult to memorize most of the new songs because of the amount of lines there are in them and, sometimes, that makes them not enjoyable as much.
