I've advocated for the creation of an optic like this since the first time I saw the Russian 1-4 pso scope many years ago. The problem with that scope was that the reticle was so busy that it was useless for close range. Dmitri really hit it out of the park when he developed the ACSS partially based on the tenets of the PSO's design concept. The original ACSS shows that, then he streamlined the design to make it even less busy and cluttered with the updated ACSS used on the gen 3 scopes. So you have a scope you can easily treat as a red dot at close range, or adjust to 6 power to engage targets at long range. With several automatic ranging increments built into the scope to adjust your point of aim to connect with targets at range. All while being far less busy or cluttered than ye olde PSO. What you have a multi-purpose tool which offers a tremendous amount of utility with a minimum of fail points. As you stated, even if the battery runs out: you retain a fantastically usable scope which simply lacks illumination. If the glass breaks, you will likely have it attached to the weapon via a quick detach mount, which provides you the ability to quickly remove it entirely and resort to backup irons. Not just for the money, but for the *capability* , I am of the opinion that the gen 3 1-6 and 1-8 ACSS scopes from Primary Arms are actually the best all around optics for use on any of the *personal defense weapon, short barreled rifle, assault rifle, battle rifle, special purpose rifle and designated marksman rifle* platforms to be had, by anyone, at any price. For a true sniper rifle, 1,000 yard competition type rifle or hunting rifle: I'd recommend something else. However, for any of the above stated platforms: no other scope is as versatile or well suited. Period. There is no competition.
@observinghumanity30345 жыл бұрын
I have the Vortex Strike Eagle which is basically the same optic minus the ACSS reticle. The reason I switched to a magnified optic was because I found out I had an astigmatism, which makes any red dot or holographic site unusable at distances. Magnified optics are super clear and at 1 power are at least as good as a red dot, plus I get the benefit of an etched reticle and magnification.

Mrgunsngear Channel How does eye relief work at 1x as compared to a red dot? I hate x4 style optics due to having to have your eye at a certain distance or you get that shadowing. I was going to go with this but decided to go with a red dot. I may still buy one at a later time.

I must agree. After running a number of red dots and toying with magnifiers, my eyes have gone a bit wonky over the years and the dot has transformed into a massive sunburst. Not only do I get to ditch the heavy magnifier, but these scopes do Everything you want them to AND work with the ol' astigmatism, unlike the box of red dots... Really want to snag of the new 1-8x models in the near future.

Great review, man. I've been curious about these for awhile, and I think you sold me on it. AK Operator's Union have been pushing these for awhile, but as much as I like Rob Ski, he tends to veer more towards the "bullsh*t-talk, (his words), instead of really conveying the hard info. You are always so concise and cover all the bases with your reviews, it really takes the guesswork out of making a purchase. On a side-note, your delivery and production value is so spot-on in your videos, it's a wonder why you haven't been picked up by a larger network to do some sort of full-fledged show at some point. There's a handful of you guys in the GunTube community who I'd love to see pulled together and put into a traditional TV programming format. I'd love to see one of these days KZbin have a pre-programmed channel that just streams 15 or 20 of you guys' newest videos on a standard release schedule. Maybe they could call it "KZbin:Guns" and have sub-channels called something like "KZbin:Guns - Reviews", "KZbin:Guns - Sport", KZbin:Guns - History", etc. They could have a whole slew of 'em, like "KZbin:Cars", "KZbin:Hunting", "KZbin:Sports" "KZbin:Food", "KZbin:Fashion", etc. If KZbin did something like that, they could really give the traditional TV networks a run for their money. I know, I'm kinda getting out there with this idea, but your channel's always made me think of stuff like that. Thanks again for the review, and have a Merry Christmas!
@TWANGnBANG6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! On the TV front, many of us get approached all the time, but it’s a really bad business model so none of us bite. Shows like what you’re thinking of actually have to buy their airtime and sell their own ads to pay for it. I’m “offered” the opportunity to produce my own show at least once a year, but it’s always the same thing- a sales pitch disguised as a casting call.
@JCG1056 жыл бұрын
Well that's crap. You'd think it could be set up in a more symbiotic fashion where both parties made some money and the viewers were entertained/educated. Go figure. I know that plenty of you guys who do gun channels are friends or at least acquaintances - I'd love to see you guys collaborate to put your guy's "product" all under one roof where you all could dictate the content and be able to sell the "airtime" to advertisers. I think it would be mutually beneficial to both parties, not to mention the viewers. So often, the viewers are treated like the resource instead of the content creators, which seem totally backwards. You'd think that KZbin would have at least picked up on consolidating channels of the same genre into some sort of advanced playlist or something, in an effort to reach more viewers, (and ultimately selling more ad space). They've got all the data on on subscriptions and viewing stats silo'd I'm sure, so it seems a waste not to harness that to create a group of "super-channels" based on genre. I'd love to see that strictly out of a personal selfish viewing perspective, (less clicks, less searching, more content), but I'm sure there's money to be made there as well.

Watch a great by Tactical Rifleman about mounting a scope and he mentioned something I have never heard. That was to set eye relief on the highest magnification and when you dial it down your eye relief is still good on lower magnifications. I tried this and it worked great. So if that was the only problem you had with the scope and this way fixes it then there would be no problems with this scope.

I have two of the Primary Arms 1-8x SFP ACSS I’m very happy with. They are great for Georgia hunting. I keep them on 1x most of the time but being able to zoom in is great advantage. The only complaint I have is the short eye relief at 7 and 8 power.
@TWANGnBANG6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve heard eye relief at maximum magnification is worse on the 1-8 than on the 1-6, so it’s got to be significant. :) However, even the 1-8 is only $389, and the savings have to come from somewhere.

great review! yep, my thoughts exactly. i own the Primary Arms 1-8x ACSS sfp model, basically the higher mag version of the scope reviewed here. its been flawless through 5,000 rds mounted on my modded FN 16" M4. i LOVE it! it flat out rocks as a 0 mag red dot/prism style sight at close range. it equals an ACOG on 3x or 4x even 5x(although the BDC wont be calibrated), and cranked up to 8x it provides precision combat type fire all the way out to the max effective range of the 5.56 nato cartridge and beyond. and if you need yotal precision, the turrets are up to the task in my experience. its well made, has good glass and turrets and isnt too heavy or too expensive and the ACSS is THE most capable, versatile and intuitive ranging and sighting system ever devised imo. what more could you ask for?

That was a solid, informative video and while the host was obviously knowledgeable, he didn't talk down to the viewer, which is rare in this topic. I have the Bushnell copy of this sight (or vice-versa, idk) and love it. That's their AR Optics 1-6x 24mm PCL Throwdown. It's particularly tuned to the 5.56mm ballistics, but has a similar reticle, (without the side dots, which look like great ideas). The Bushnell does have a handy lever that flips up to run the zoom. It's MSRP is $285 but it seems like I paid less. It's been awhile.

How is the edge to edge clarity? One of my only gripes with the gen2 was the fuzzy edges.
