Good to see EVs are becoming a lot more affordable but for me the running costs need to be a lot less than combustion engines to counter the lack of, and high cost of EV charging points.

Running costs are considerably less when you charge at home overnight. If public charging is your only option then yes it is more to charge , but the electricity market is becoming more competitive again and providers are reducing charge fees , then used values for evs will go back up, so now is a great time to buy used 😉

@JonathanPorterfield Sorry, but that's just not true. The absolute backside has fallen out of the EV market, due to a number of reasons hence the current prices and massive depreciation. The 2nd hand market is on its backside so a great time to buy, but in my opinion it will not change anytime soon. Other opinions are available.

Hi Jonathan...a quick question for you.I have just purchased an Hyundai Ionic 22 plate and while I was sorting seat covers and putting stuff into it the 12v battery dropped right down and I ended up having to call the AA. The AA guy said I needed to keep the ignition switched on while cleaning inside or washing it as the main battery keeps charging the 12v so no problems.My question is what do I do when I am charging the car at home? Once charging do I switch the car off & lock it? I had a BMW i3 a couple of years ago and it seemed a lot more straight forward and no danger of draining the 12v battery. We are currently living in Shropshire but are seriously looking at moving to Orkney so will definitely be taking a look at your EV stock.

The 12 volt is drained if the interior courtesy lights are on for a long period of time , the ioniq 39kWh is prone to a 'weak' 12 volt over time too. When charging the cars BMS will top up the 12 volt , and please note , you cant have an ev turned 'on' and AC charge at the same time.

What does the two numbers on the EV mean eg 150KW 64 KWH and which one would you use in terms of calculating the cost of charging a vehicle ?
@JonathanPorterfield
@JonathanPorterfield Жыл бұрын
kW is power , so 150 kW motor , 64kWh is the battery capicity, so from 'flat' it would take 64 units of electricity 😉 calculate on your cost per unit , my day rate is 40p night rate 9p , so guess when i charge 😉? So 64 × 9p to cover 260 miles , or £5.70 to cover 260 miles

How much can you save buying at this Auction House, I'm thinking of buying a Hyundai ioniq

Over a main dealer around £1500 less , you need a trade account to buy at auction to get reduced auction fees etc.

do EV's retain less of their value compared to ICE cars
@Lewis_Standing
@Lewis_Standing Жыл бұрын
For a time when you couldn't easily get new EVs easily, second hand one's went for more than new ones because they were available instantly. Much more supply now and much more new available so it's dropped off a lot. Don't know Vs ICE overall they'll be different model Vs model make Vs make but Jonathan might be able to tell us avg Vs avg maybe

@@Lewis_Standing there will be a point that ICE vehicles will have very little value as the adoption of EVs catapults in the transition.
