Well, the guy playing the role wasn't an actor. If I remember right the guy was Kurt Thomas, a gymnast who won medals in various world championships but missed out on the Olympics because of President Carter's boycott.. I guess they were trying to make him a movie star or something, and failed horribly. The movie is notorious for what a rotten failure it was. (Sadly, checking the information at IMDb I see that Mr. Thomas passed away just 3 months ago of a stroke at the age of 64.)
