THE Best Bib Shorts? Assos Equipe RS S9 Bib Shorts | Unboxing & Review

I was lucky enough to get a pair of the Assos Equipe RS S9 Bib Shorts for my Birthday. I've had a chance to get some miles on them, so I've decided to make a review of the shorts to hopefully help anyone watching! I was also really impressed with the unboxing process, so I thought that would be cool to show too.

Hi Wil, great video, Do the shorts feel short on your legs because you are 187cm ? I am 191cm and 78kg and used Large so far but feel like Medium would get me better compression for my skinny thighs. Thanks for your help 🤝👍

Yeah, and I don't even have particularly long legs for my height- so I'd imagine they'd be like hotpants on you 🤣. I'm much preferring the leg length on the Mille GT C2 GTS shorts- it's noticeably longer than on the shorts in this video 👍

Thanks guys. You have both answered my question. I went straight to the part in the video when you had it on and it looked short to me. I then watched the full review. I’m 197cm and like my bibs longer. I was just about to purchase it but sadly will have to say no now.

I brought the same bib short, the chamois is good. The fabric is stretchy and comfortable. Its pricy average 7 out 10. I did 1000km with no problem. It holds in proper place, i got one size large for 37-38 inches waist.

Cheers for your thought! I've found an assos model I prefer over these- the MILLE GT SUMMER C2 GTS shorts, slightly cheaper but I prefer the chamois and the leg length and grippers make them fit a lot better for me.

Very snazzy! I've got some swish Rapha bibs that are great but I seem to really get on with my club bib shorts which are loads cheaper so tend to use those a lot of the time :)

Comfy is comfy! Seems to come down more to finding which brands fit your shape more than anything else.

how do these compare to ra pha pro team "training" shorts? i love rapha...Also i wear a XS i rapha shorts and jerseys.... im 5 foot5. 126lbs 10 percent bodyfat. LOL i think a small would be good in assos? or XS? i have no issues with rapha pro team training and can rdie forever

Hard to say as I've never tried them. If you've found something which works for you that well, I'd be inclined to stick with what you know!

Compared to your Rapha’s how are you liking these.

Much prefer them tbh. The chamois and materials used are definitely superior- as is the construction quality. But I'd say personally the rapha fit probably suits me better, which stops it being a whitewash. These are definitely better value for money vs pro team shorts.

@@xBobby no worries, and yeah they certainly aren't cheap! The assos definitely fit shorter in the leg than the raphas- if they were a bit longer in the leg they'd be the perfect short imho.

What would be your advice on size if I had S for waist and XS for both hip and height (according to Assos chart)? Size S ? Thanks

Hard to say- ideally order both and return the one that doesn't fit so well. I use the size based off my weight I think...

@@willcowen2152 years ago I had FI UNO S5 size M bought in Germany. For that I wrote to Assos asking the same question and then they asked for my weight and height. Surprisingly never heard back again. That’s why I looked for KZbin. Tons of reviews... Ambiguity also applies to Rapha which I loathed. Thanks for your advice.

Probably true 😂 The only bad thing I can say about these shorts after 6 months of having them is that the length is definitely too short for some people's taste. Cant fault them otherwise- as long as you can stomach the price!

I was checking the assos website for size measurements for the but I couldn't find weight anywhere only length hip and waist. Where can I find the other measurement?

just try the winter bib tights ;) they work well (breath well and keep body at the right temperature, like if i start riding it's degree i will not feel cold and when at the end of ride it's 15 degree i dont feel warm). It's assos, they are expert for bib shorts and for bib tights, hard to find better confort, only if you are pro you could get limited clothes with same capacity.

The box is hone in seconds with me, I hardly notice it. I want good shorts not gimmicky nonsense. I’m not sold on the Assis golden gate muller key either. Best thing about Assos shorts for me is the fit. They look hood too!

Must appeal to some people, otherwise I doubt they'd plough so much money into designing the packaging etc. Having had these for a few months now, I can definitely say they're still working really well for me- did 190km at the weekend and no issues!

I have an update. After a year of using the short. The alastic in the fabric at the stress point have disintegrated. It have become sheer (see through) . Contacted the company and they said . Not a manufacturer defect. Conclusion. As good as they feel. Prepare to buy yearly. 400 bones a year is steep for my pay grade.

Always frustrating to receive a reply back from a company like that- had a very similar experience with a pair of castelli shorts which disintegrated on me. How often have you been using them? I've probably been using mine on average 1x week and this hasn't happened, but the chamois is noticeably less soft now than when they were new.

@@willcowen2152 to be fair. I did use it alot. But used the mele alot more and they are not showing any fatigue . I had castile and they did the same. Sheer . Expose my but crack. Thanks for getting back to me.👍

The chamois is very similar to the Endura sl pro that I have. That has the gap at the front and interestingly you can get the sl pro chamois in different widths which helps for me as i have particularly wide sit bones. Would be facinated to see how this chamois holds up to my 106kg... but I am not prepared to risk the £170 to find out. Great review though.

I'm keen to try the endura shorts, they seem to be one of the only brands which cater for a large range of body shapes!

@@willcowen2152 i think I have had mine for 5 years (which I hadnt realised until yesterday) ..the bibs are in excellent shape apart from the pad that has finally given in to my weight! There are no tear or wear marks on the fabric...the white top section now sports that pants grey look! But all stitching still good and they feel like new when washed. I would buy again but I would like to try something different perhaps with a better pad. I am looking at the Orro goldline (not well known but in all the reviews i have read the chamois gets praised to the hilt) and they are around £75 made with the classic 80-20 polyester/elastide mix that nearly all the top brands use. I have emailed them for info on their sizing... the other brand i hear really good things about is Galibier and they are very reasonably priced.

bassmandudge tbh not sure I know I ave only had them since lockdown when got into the road cycling malarkey, and went for medium size thickness padding. Working so far pleased to say. They were about £80 I think and might of been a discount price at the time.

Just got these. 7 out of 10. I couldn't careless about packaging. Fit - good. Chamois - meh,OK. The crotch is well supported. Feels really bunched up where the chamois isn't sewn to the short. "Lock" system - gimmick. Material feels like sandpaper. But seems like it will be abrasion resistant. Sphyres are way more worth the money!

Cheers for your thoughts! I guess like anything it's a bit of trial and error to find what suits your body shape. Will have to consider those shimano ones next, if they're as good as the shimano shoes I've had in the past then they'll no doubt be excellent quality.

Yeah I think the cento sits above these in terms of price, and then above both is the Equipe RSR S9- which seem to be the RS S9 with different materials. Although not 100% sure so you might want to check (if you can handle the £250 price tag!)

Until I can find bottoms that perform better than Assos (without paying more - these are already dearly expensive), I will share your curious take on the packaging as well as an affinity for the brand. Fair enough! My day job is in the unboxing world, so I personally find it quite interesting- and have seen the effect it can have on brand loyalty/customer retention... but each to their own
