A Braddah after many years of fishkeeping I realized that you dont need those filters to filter your tanks. A sponge filter and a weekly gravel vac WC is all you need. Saves money on utilities and laying out cash for those filters and media. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

I've got Sponge filters that have those cups for extra media. Decided to fill those spaces with Biohome. My 29 gallon has the Biohome ultimate in the sponge filter and box filter. I went ahead and bought 24lbs of the Bio-gravel, most of it is in a 14g cube now. I'm wondering how it compares to standard gravel. The tanks only been up for 2 weeks now.

Manoj Dongol If given the proper time and conditions this media can reduce Nitrates. The de-nitrifying bacteria can take from 4+ months to grow and the tricky part of it is that it needs the exact opposite conditions of the bacteria that takes care of ammonia and nitrites. The bacteria that takes care of ammonia and nitrites needs fast flowing and highly oxygenated water but the anerobic bacteria needs very slow and deoxygenated water for it to grow. The super biogravel can help take care of the nitrates because it’s a much denser media espically in the core of the media. And Brother Mel made a video on how I use a Marina breeder box to help give the media better conditions for the anerobic bacteria to grow. You should check it out! I started using the breeze box in this way and have showed it to others. The trick is to fill the breeder box all the way jam packed with media and since it’s powered by an air pump you can control the flow from the water going into the breeder box. I make mines on the slowest possible flow and I tape the breeeder box with any type of dark tape from from the top bottom and sides. Any light from the sun to certain tank lights emit UV rays which can kill the beneficial bacteria. And the last thing is DONT touch it at all. Even if it looks all funky and gunky DONT touch it or clean it. I have had mine going for over 4 years now and I know it helps in reducing the Nitrates in my tank. Try and look at Mels older videos and look for the one that he made using the Marina Breeder box.

Brian Hahn Hi Brian, I am the Authorized Hawaii seller for Biohome and I can tell you that I ONLY sell the super biogravel to my customers locally. There are more advantages in using the SBG over the ultimate. If you have a round type of filter like the FX or Eheim classic filters you can actually fit more SBG in the filter. For example in the FX trays you could fit approximately 1 ½ - 2 lbs if you neatly placed the media in the basket, with the SBG you can fit 4lbs and you can “super charge” the media(this is something I started when it first came out) by adding in either Seachem Matrix or Eheim substrate pro. I added about a 1/2lb more biological media without loosing my main media. And another advantage is that because the SBG is a lot denser it gives the anerobic bacteria better conditions to grow. I can and have help my local customers cycle their tank in 2 weeks using the SBG, the gel balls, and Dr. Tim’s ammonia. This of course of doing it in a fishless cycle. I have done tanks from 5 gallons to 180 gallons. And another thing it’s much cheaper than the ultimate. Don’t get me wrong the ultimate is a good media and it got promoted because of the added “elements” to supposedly help cycle your tank faster. The one question i have always asked and no one can answer is how much faster does it cycle you tank because of the added “elements”. I cannot tell you enough on how much I love this media and IMHO it’s the best media out there now! Sorry for the long reply!
