The BEST birdwatching in New Mexico | Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge

Bosque del Apache has some of the best bird watching and bird photography opportunities in New Mexico as well as the Southwestern US. In the winter months, (Nov-Jan) thousands of migratory birds to include snow geese and sandhill cranes stay the winter in Bosque del Apache, New Mexico. The opportunities for bird photography are endless!
If you are a nature lover, photographer, or interested in bird photography or wildlife photography- this is the place for you!!!
Bosque del Apache is located just South of the town of Socorro, just ~1-1/2 hours south of Albuquerque.
Currently the visitor center is closed, but the refuge is open to visitors.

This is a very accessible place. Birders always let you use their scopes. Your own scope would be useful but you can see the wildlife with your naked eyes. Always see a lot of wildlife from the boardwalk. I also enjoy a hike from there. Sandhill cranes will almost pose for you.

Sorry you were not feeling well and I hope you feel better. I love the sounds the geese make when they are all just chillin. Gets a little scary sounding when they all take off, but looks real cool 😜. We had the sandhill cranes in Orlando when we lived there. Always loved it after hatching season when you would see them walking around with their chicks.

i have put off exploring further than my local area until i learned more about photography and KZbin. From my home the Bosque is only a couple of hours away, but we don't travel after dark anymore. old eyes. I really want to spend a few days there. maybe a motel would be better. thanks for the info.
