@BoxedMeeples To be honest, I haven't really played too many of these games. I really like Dwellings of Eldervale (as I said in another comment), but besides that, I have only played 1 of the other games. But I do enjoy watching Top game lists (see below): Great list, btw - 16 distinct games overall - with 4 crossovers: Arnak; SW Rebellion; Scythe; and Root. Looking at the list, I can say that each of them are games which I would like to try at some point (and I would also be willing to give Scythe another try - I played it once, but it just didn't jive with me for whatever reason). Note: I have played My Lil' Everdell, which I picked up for my niece. But I haven't tried regular Everdell yet. Extra Note: I think it's funny that your #10s are: "Everdell" and "Eldervale", respectively. I think those publishers should collaborate and make a game called "Dwellings of Everdell", lol.

Yes, the scoring regions are drawn at the start of each round. At the end of the game you score for having won sets of different regions, so this does make when you move - and where, important throughout the game.

I also really enjoy games themed around ancient Japan and my collection includes Bitoku, Iki, Eternal Palace, Tang Garden, Katana and, of course, Yedo. What is your recommendation for a 2 player game of root?
@BoxedMeeples8 ай бұрын
To be honest, we wouldn't play Root two player unless you have the hirlings expansion. It's possible to do Cats vs Birds but it doesn't show the game in its best light. Cats Rats Moles could all work in a combination at 2, but would be a very busy board

I thought that scythe wasn't good at 2 players, do you play the campaign mode? Or you prefer the normal game with 2 players?

Hi and thanks for good video... 👏 So,I need for your recommend.I bought Root base game recently.Even have not played yet.And don't know any rules about this game.We'll play it mostly 2 players,may be sometimes 3 or 4. As I heard that Marauder ex. is better for 2p,I bought Marauder.Then I heard another one(exiles and partisans deck) is great also.Ordered and it's on its way, it's coming... My question: After having these 3 Root boxes(Base game,Marauder and exiles and oartisans deck) will I need any other expansions especially for 2 and may be sometimes 3p? Or it's enough to have fun with those 3 boxes..? Please recommend... Thanks in advance 🙏
@BoxedMeeples6 ай бұрын
@Shura-23 hi, so glad you're exploring Root. If you have access to the Digital Version either on Steam or the App I'd always suggest new players explore that to understand how the factions work.. The game isn't at its best at two, but the Hirlings expansion was specifically designed to solve that problem. A good two player start would be the Cats vs the Eerie (both base) game factions. Then add the Woodland Alliance for the 3rd
@BoxedMeeples6 ай бұрын
@Shura-23 I presume someone suggested the Maurauders Expansion for the Rats, as they play similar (but much more aggressive) to the Cats. I wouldn't touch the Badgers till much later though as they play very differently to the others. Cats vs Rats would be a fun way to play?

We won't say anything about Rise of Fenris, but it may well be our favourite expansion ever. Lots to unlock, which can then be used in the main game. @@BoxedMeeples That's an interesting point. Game reviewers play a lot of games, some games need multiple plays and deeper understanding of asymmetric powers in order to be able to carry out the rich strategies in certain games. As an old gamer, these list get old. Gaming has been around for many decades before the year 2000. WBC’s been around for four plus decades. Yes some of the older stuff is two complicated for younger players (under 50) but something should make a top 50 list of all time? Is this basically a marketing list?
@BoxedMeeples6 ай бұрын
Thanks its very flattering you consider us "younger players"! As we say frequently throughout these lists, we pick the games we have played which typically means those we have bought, or have access to from members of our gaming group. If we haven't played a game, or more importantly didn't like a game it wont make our list, regardless of when they were released. Including something released pre-2000 just to have something on the list that is "released pre-2000" seems like Tokenism. Not sure why you would call it a marketing list though, when we wouldn't benefit at all from specific games being sold over others.
