I’ve never seen other Booktubers mention ‘Audit’ and I love that you do it here haha P.S. Pour one out for the Hard Drive Crash.

A few folks have done an audit, so there are more videos like this out there if you are looking for more 😌

I'm really excited to read more of the nonfiction books that you recommend, especially Black Reconstruction in America (or really anything by W.E.B. Du Bois). I'd be really interested in watching a video where you disect your experience/journey with nonfiction!

I'm buddy reading Black Reconstruction right now. I often struggle with nonfiction, but the writing is so good that I'm finding it super easy to follow along. I picked it up on your recommendation a long time ago and am finally getting around to it.

I'm so glad to hear that! Yes, the writing itself is so excellent I think it makes it more approachable

This was really fun! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I get it too as I recently went through what I’ve been reading since I started really getting into it again and it’s been really interesting seeing how many 4.5 rated novels have lasted with me longer than those I rated 5 stars initially. In one case I can think I of a 3.5 star novel that has lasted with me so long I’m starting to forget what my problem with it was! Some 5 stars have lasted but others seem very much ‘of the moment’ for me.

It's so hard to sort out what makes a book a "favorite" - quality? Enjoyment? Impact on your life?
@eamongilligan326247 минут бұрын
@@bookslikewhoa Exactly. I try and work this out, but it's a struggle. My favourites from this year I guess are ones that have lingered with me, and I still feel a bit of a thrill when I think back to them: "The Driver's Seat", "A Passage to India", "The Lottery and Other Stories", "Orlando", "Affinity"... a lot of it is for me loving the writing style, but there's even more to it than that which I find hard to pinpoint.

Is the eighth detective too recent? Or wasn't it a 5 stars? I read it on your recommendation and it was an absolute 5 star for me, I truly think about it quite often when reading other mysteries!
@bookslikewhoa3 сағат бұрын
I gave that one 4.5 stars at the time, so it didn't qualify, but I really did love it!

I started reading the Hidden Legacy books because of you so I'm lowkey devastated one of them didn't make the top 5, it would have made mine. 😅 (I binged the entire series including novellas in one week last year and I still think about them) A couple of other booktubers convinced me on Kate Daniels this year and I'm almost done with those.
@abbiel7566Күн бұрын
Ooo which series do you recommend starting with?
@librarianliraelКүн бұрын
@abbiel7566 I love Kate Daniels but the Hidden Legacy were fully my brand of heroine (pun intended).

It's such an amazing series... I think if I liked Burn for Me more, I might have included it, but it was "just" a 4.5

Ibram X. Kendi’s controversy was about his non-profit. I could be wrong but I don’t think whatever’s going on has anything to do with his writing/books. I read his other book- How to be an Anti-Racist and I felt it taught me a lot. I’ll probably read his other one eventually too.

I love both those mystery rec's but would agree Alperton has a slight edge in terms of quality. Always going to choose the Mad Ship as my favourite Robin Hobb though.

How fun! I have read 10 or 11 of your 40ish books (counting the moving tiles on my phone is hard - lol). None of the NF or romance. Robin Hobb is the bomb! And I've loved Robb and Christie for years. Wildfire was great! (the first trilogy of Hidden Legacy was even better than Kate Daniels... maybe...) I DNFd Library At Mount Char after only a few pages. Now, to check out libby and the library for more to add to my Mara recs TBR. Your end-of-year lists are coming soon! Yea!!
