The one major advantage the Hunter has is that the gun is insanely quiet. Even with a suppressor, the RFB is very loud, insanely so. The Vepr Hunter on the other hand is basically the DMR DVL. It's almost undetectable outside of 30-40 meters.

To the Svt enjoyers, you cant supress it. I love using Hunter since a few days especially night raids, it's really quiet over around 40mtrs. People just dont know where they get hit from hehe

The Vepr-Hunter's problem now is, you can get CPU fans regularly for 8k from the flea. Barter those fans for Gas Analyzers from Mechanic and you can get the RFB for 16k. If you don't want to wait for a mechanic reset to get 2 GasAns, you can just do one and you're still getting the RFB for like 20-24k.

Not to mention, im running the vepr unsuppressed, because i like ergo, and i am using the rear sight adapter to run a pk-06 dot, making the vepr the cheapest that you can run with both a red dot and x4, period. And yes i can see out both sights

I made a long winded response but beef covered all the bases, basically the svt does the job the hunter used to, and if you're using m62 or m80 you might as well invest in better guns. Both guns are def in the "avoid buying" category now, with the hunter being a real hard sell.

By the time you get cheap m80, a budget 308 gun makes little to no sense. For budget chad killing ap-m and 7.62 PP are the way, not to mention the ease of access to m855a1 for 101s and mdrs They should put m80 on PK3 to make it a little more viable for the mid game, or buff bcp to ~37 pen, that round just sucks

I have mainly ran bcp all wipe, and am currently running it, including meta sr25's. It can put someone down through level 5 armor in about 4 shots, and it doubles as flesh/leg meta lol. I would say bcp very much doesnt suck.

​@@alex59248I disagree. BCP suck. You can 2 tap fools in thorax with M80, 4-5 shots is more than double on average and considering the fire rate of the weapons... quite a tall order. Prior Peacemaker 4 I find running a mag of M80 with a back up split half M80 half bcp acceptable (full bcp if short on M80) but honestly... Don't shoot BCP if you can help it! Waste of an already underdog gun.

You can get the Thunderbeast suppressor for rfb for only 20-25k if u get the leather caps on Fence, they show up almost every Fence reset

M80 being at Peacekeeper 4 is so ridiculous to me… by the time u get PK4 arnt you looking at using M32 and M31 anyway. It makes these guns as well as M1 and SR-25 less likely to use for me and I absolutely love the SR

Can you test whether or not mixed magazines are worth it now with the new preset system? I've ran some kits with top loaded US and BT on top of each other and it really helps with recoil but still has bite since high pen ammo is always on the second shot

Load the US as the top 3. Recoil seems to recenter the best on that round.

Viable they are also with bcp but not reliable. It took mostly 2hits more than m80 to put someone down. At range difficult to get hits at the moment the target starts to run and in short range the t2k it’s to long….

both are solid guns, between the 2 I prefer the RFB simply for higher ergo and myself being an ergo enjoyer. Since you get a recoil buff being crouched/prone, the higher recoil of the RFB is kind of a non issue.

Bring down the hunter 10 rounders to Jager 2, and give 20 rounders somewhere higher (Mechanic 2 or Jager 3) and the Vepr becomes pretty formidable.

I'm sure I will still use Hunter pick-ups, but I probably won't go buy the gun. The available ammo is very mediocre and the fact that you can't buy ten-round mags from the start is crazy to me-- ten rounders are already a tiny mag, and five-rounders are crazy :D IMO the ten rounders should be available from Jaeger 1 and either M80 needs to be available at PK2 or BCP at least needs a small buff of some kind. As things stand the Hunter just seems a little anemic for a gun with it's price tag and the trader requirements for the already-inadequate ten rounders. It needs to be a bit more accessible to fill a role as an ultra-budget DMR-ish rifle IMO. By the time you''ve got the trader levels and budget for ten-round mags and suppressors for this, there are probably better ways to spend your money (let alone by the time you reach M80, lol). I still have a big crush on this rifle though just from watching Karmakut donk so many chads with it a couple of years ago when I started playing Tarkov, so I'm sure I'll still use it a bit just for fun.

i dont see the point of a budget 308 gun with current ammo availability, by the time you get consistent access to m80 your scav case has probably brought you more sr25s, rsass's, and mk17s than you know what to do with. throwing some cheap parts onto an sr25 easily outperforms both these guns.

None of these are best or budget when good 7.62x51 ammo is unobtainium in quantity anyway and by the time you get it you can buy M1A, SR-25, G28 etc which are all better. up to lvl 3-4 traders there is 0 reason to run anything that isn't 7.62x54R in the sniper/dmr class.
