I've owned one for a while and have never been bored with it. It has some secrets though, run the master at nearly full volume, use it like a single channel amp on the drive channel. I use the clean for pedals only. It in my opinion sounds so much better this way.

I just bought one of these (B-stock steal) and am blown away. I run it into an oversized, homemade 1x12 with a swamp thang and a cheap EQ pedal in the fx loop. Holy smokes. The amount of sheer volume/power this tiny, portable rig is capable of is blowing my mind.
@RaymondHolt28 күн бұрын
Dude! Planning on doing the same exact thing. I used to build guitars, and I built amp cabs for an amp class once. Thinking of getting back into making amp cabinets and was going to start with some for myself. I ordered this amp for gigging soon, but was thinking of making a 1x12 for home use. I was looking at 100w + speakers, Eminence has a few good options it seems.
@brandonvaughan423626 күн бұрын
@@RaymondHolt I cannot say enough good things about this combo. I'm currently running a Rat > TS combo (the EQ in the FX loop isn't necessary but it really takes the amp to a new level) into the clean channel and it absolutely kills. I think the "American" sound of the Swamp Thang really compliments the British-voiced SC100 very well. I can get anything from GNR, AC/DC to stoner sludge to some metal. 100% happy with this purchase. Also, congrats and ENJOY!
@happihockey860116 күн бұрын
I have one of these, the dirty channel likes boost pedals, but not fuzz or drive, the effects loop is great, I run a digital delay, chorus and harmonic trem through there and the sound is great on either channel. A lot of folks say put an EQ in the loop, but I haven't done that, it sounds great through my cabs already, I think the need for the EQ pedal in the loop is very cab/speaker dependent.
@rompofotters4 ай бұрын
I've had one for about 2 weeks, and I love it. Great amp on it's own, but throw an EQ pedal in the loop and it really comes alive. Anyone who has this amp, or is considering one, go get an EQ pedal for it. Do it now. Go.

Pedals into the Orange SC100 sounded great - Take a look at the HiWatt Super Leeds 150 head too. Solid state, Mosfet power amp. Super clean, clean channel with its own EQ, Vintage channel that is Marshall voiced which shares an EQ with the High Gain, more modern gain channel that has its own Contour control. $374 for the 150 watt head brand new. It’s a keeper solid state. Quite a few that have the Orange Super Crush or CR120 have also bought the HiWatt Super Leeds 150 or Crunch 150 (Crunch is older - they made some improvements with the Super Leeds and Leeds amps) and like them every bit as much. I love the Orange SS amps, but definitely love my HiWatt Super Leeds. The solid state HiWatt Super Leeds sounds more Marshall than my 3210 Lead 100 Mosfet head. The clean channel is clean all the way through the range of the volume. Great for pedal platform and Doom sounds with pedals. I use a RAT and Rams head fuzz. I play the Marshall sounds more on it though. I also have the Orange Guitar Butler 3 channel preamp which is Orange’s solid state take on their old Graphic and OR120 amps. Plug into the Mosfet power amp of my HiWatt via fx return. Heavy!

This has become my go to amp, even going so far as to sell most of my tube amps. Especially with the rising availablity of some great analog preamps like my Architect of Reality and FET120, I just leave it in the clean channel and never find myself wanting for tone. I now have a killer rig with tons of sonic versatility at a fraction of the space, weight, and expense of my old setup that is so easy to pack up and play out with. Literally my only gripe ever with this amp is that the I wish the cab sim could be switched off on the DI so that other cab IRs could be used. If they ever did that, this would the best recording amp ever. Long story short, I love mine and it has a permanent space on my rig.

Great video. Keep up the cool content! I've got the predecessor, the Crush Pro 120. I got it as I wanted a solid state practice amp for noodling around rather than cycling my tube amps if I just want to work on a few riffs for a short period of time. I run it through a 400 watt Orange cab (the one with K100s). Get cool tones out of it with numerous different guitar/pickup combos. Primarily B standard doom but can get passable D# standard thrash riffs out of it especially with EMG 81. When I'm feeling frisky, I Y into an early 70s Peavey Musician 210 watt head via HM2 into an old Fender 4x12 loaded with V30s. Blend the two for some beastly tones. Some say 330 watt full stack is a bit much for a practice amp, but then I remind them they aren't metal enough.

No mention of using an EQ in the fx loop. For me, a $23 MoVall Boostaur from Temu in the fx loop brought this amp to life (If someone has a more prestigious version of this pedal, I’d appreciate it, but really it sounds so good). Boosted the bass on the pedal and pedal gain at 9 o’clock gives it a tiny bit of grit and sounds a bit like power tubes just starting to breakup.

It's been there for a long time. Peavey cracked the code in the 90s with transtube, and patented it for a reason. Peavey models the response of a tube power amp section in the power amp itself, rather then all in the preamp. Brands like orange and hiwatt just doing the best they can while not having access to the transtube tech that truly compresses, smooths out and breaks up like power tubes. Peavey needs to compete with orange and rerelease the XXL 100w Head.

I got this amp because it was inexpensive and hoping to record some with it and extend the tube life of my other amps by reducing wear and tear every time i want to noodle. How are you preferring to balance the clean volume with the master volume and the volume on the pedals. Also if you get a chance try a 10 band in the effects loop for some tweaking.

Is this a class D ? And .....i love everything about this amp BUT!!! Why in the holy doom metal world has Orange started putting that small squished logo on all the amps nowadays that looks like it's been stepped on! Where is the old loud and proud large one😢 and i know it only aesthetics but I'm sorry bad PR decision.
