Just purchased a Sony a5100 w/kit lens for some live streaming at the recommendation of another KZbinr/Streamer, and it should be here this week. The search for the "right" lens for me, though, has had me stressed... feeling like a need a college degree in photography to understand anything. Your video here did a few great things for me: 1) you reinforced my decision to pay the extra $50 for the kit lens, 2) you convinced me of the value of using the kit lens for a bit to see what settings will be best for my streaming setup, and 3) you really helped me with a base understanding of the jargon in the naming/classification of these lenses. Seriously - I'm feeling much less intimidated and significantly more patient. I'll be able to wait on an upgraded lens purchase now, thanks to you, and I'm much less likely to waste money on the wrong fit for me. THANK YOU for this video. Have a sub/follow!!

Gregg, 12 months on- how did you go ? Any advice for someone in the same position as you were ?
@greggm13 жыл бұрын
@@Zuchii I ended up going with the kit lens for a bit and I liked it... it was a good quality lens and even though the bokeh effect was less than I wanted, it worked VERY well. After about a month, though, I switched it up and went with this one: Sigma 16mm F1.4 (like in his description above). I'm not really streaming at all, but I use this every day as my telework camera... so I'm the best-looking manager on the conference calls in Teams/Zoom. :D

Just came across this video after buying an A6600 w/kit (3.5-5.6 18-135mm) as well as the 18-50mm and the Sigma 18. Happy to know that my research matches mostly up to your recommendations. Planning on getting the 35mm once I get more money. Thank you for this well informed video. The demos were exactly what I needed.

Thank you for this explanation - I am a complete techie but I never got into photography or cameras until I started hosting on-line events, and I know absolutely nothing about cameras. I've already upgraded from laptop cameras, to webcams, to phone cameras (via DroidCam), to GoPros, and now I'm on the path to a Sony A5100 and (I think) that Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens you reviewed here. I really appreciate the explanation. OK, so 3-weeks later, I've been VC'ing with a Sony A5100 for a couple of weeks and as of today, my Sigma 16mm F1.4 lens has turned up which is simply incredible. At the lowest ISO, I've had to close the aperture to f1.7 during the day because my white-painted room just over-exposes everything. But I am working tonight so I'm really looking forward to seeing how it'll all come together in the low light of my office. But let's just say this... SHARP image. And oh yeah, BOKEH - the best I've ever seen.
