LEGO has a long history of cancelling sets before they're released, and in this video, I take a look at a bunch of these banned, leaked, prototype and concept sets! These sets range from themes such as Star Wars, Ninjago, Chima, Disney and more!

The Osprey was cancelled because the main propeller mechanism turned out to be massively flawed to the point where it damaged the gears. The German peace society complaining about the model is borderline irrelevant and just happened to be a nice smokescreen for Lego and a way to earn some brownie points.

I've never really bought the "it funds military contractors" explanation either because even though the sets they've done of Airbus and Boeing craft are civilian, both companies make military aircraft and the money gets to them regardless of the set's subject matter

Lego used to not make grey bricks because they didn't want kids to build tanks so it's always been their thing not some new change. I don't know how they made Indiana Jones ww2 sets tho

For me the temple of doom was one of the biggest missed opportunities from Lego. Indiana jones is my favourite film series of all time (not so much the newer movies even though I did enjoy them) and I was so beyond happy when the theme came back in last year, and now gutted that it seems to be the end of the theme again. And just knowing that we could’ve had at least 1 more set is just damning to me, I hope the theme returns one day with more prominence and more awesome sets. Plus I still can’t believe that the dual moulded hat+hair piece for Indy hasn’t been used at all since

I really wish the dynamite factory hadn't been cancelled. It contained 2 red 4x4 round bricks with holes in them. Which have only ever come in one other set 20 years ago. I've always wanted to build a Y-wing with red instead of yellow, but without those bricks, i can't do it. i'm also bummed the Temple of Doom was canceled, as I never got the original.

09:10 This was my #1 cancelled LEGO set! Fortunately there isn’t a single unique piece in the V22 Osprey and so it can be easily recreated at pretty close to the original RRP depending on how good you are at sourcing parts! Of course you have to do it in an alternative colour scheme. I went with red and yellow as it’s one of the most common of the technic colours and really gives it the “rescue” look the set was aiming for! The battery box and motor along with a host of other parts can be sourced from the Airbus helicopter set which is the only other set to use that motor, the hardest part was getting the black dome pieces to cover the centre of the rotors but fortunately they’re found in the Ninjago fire mech set! 09:58 and the construction sets weren’t terrible. They just picked the wrong characters for some. For droids, troopers and Mandalorians they were great! It’s the people faced ones that were off! The Scout Trooper and speeder bike combo is a masterpiece IMHO! 😂

There was a Wolfpack castle concept image, we could have had a Wolfpack castle that I estimate to be about 1 baseplate in it's base with a wolf head as gate house that would slightly overhang the baseplate itself. So pretty sizable indeed.

3:54 Are you not going to specify why the OW2 set was canned? No? Fine, I’ll do it myself. Basically, the set was revealed at an unfortunate time, with the State of California’s investigation in sexual harassment inside Activision/Blizzard’s (who made and, at the time, owned Overwatch) workplace. With this in mind, many questioned and criticized Lego for the poor timing, prompting them to respond saying they’ll cut ties with ActiBliz and cancel the Overwatch theme.

The real reason why the first City set seen in the video got cancelled was because of the controversy with the Police in the U.S. in 2020/2021 (which while not as big as it was in 2020, the impact of the controversies are felt to this today)

Lego's no wart stance has always seemed a bit hypocritical as they have regularly released sets with various sci fi and fantasy weaponry and even real world weaponry with knights and pirates and Indiana jones.

As a kid I had a couple of them and I wanted so bad to keep up with each generation but unfortunately my parents didn’t do allowance so I could rarely ever earn money to buy them…. Well, Lego never canceled the other Model of the V22 31020 and the F35b 42066, both unique military designs. The Airbus H175 Helicopter 42145 probably got away, because the armed military version H175m has just been presented in August 2024. We’ll never know how much influence the self destructive gearbox of 113 had in that decision.

Same, but my guess as for why we never got a Grial Temple (which could have easily had some excellent play features) or more The Last Crusade sets is because the movie has heavy religious and military (specifically, n4z1) imagery, both big no-nos for LEGO.

@@Naoto-kun1085 Honestly I think its because most kids nowadays don't really care much about a movie from the 80s anymore. In 2008 there atleast was a new Movie with lots of marketing after the Franchise was on hiatus for 2 decades. The most recent movie felt like it was only trying to pander to nostalgia of people who were kids in the 80s and didn't really get much marketing. Other old IPs like Star Wars get a constant flood of new shows via streaming.

I'm gonna be honest, I know LEGO is supposed to be something that's family friendly enough so that it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, but I swear a lot of the times they can be 4Kids levels of "we don't respect children's intelligence." Like... seriously? They thought a bunch of thiefs hiding at a dynamite factory with a big ol' dynamite prop on the roof went against their core values? It's a cartoony as hell scenario you still see in children's media today, did they think it was going to promote terrorism or something?

do you know what "speculation" means? The movie already also was greatly controversial on release due to the gore in it. It was initially rated PG due to being deemed to mild for a R-Rating, but people complained so PG-13 was created. It wasn't just one side that was upset by the violence in the movie over in the US either.
