Mate, you can return these fish alive in NSW, don't let any one tell you different. Also, just dumping a live fish in the grass is not the way to go, very poor practice. It will attract pests and spreads disease.

@@willrogers5713 legislation says that you don’t have to, however most people do because they believe you are meant to. Some people enjoy fishing for carp as fun and do it as a hobby so they put the fish back for the next bloke to enjoy

I agree mate and have learnt from that experience. If in wild systems like the Nepean River I prefer to kill them. But in man-made lakes where they have no effect I will release them.

Carp are an invasive introduced species that are decimating native fish and waterways! They should always be humanly killed and removed from the river bank in-fact It’s The Law.
