What's your favorite trailer to use on a bladed jig?
@johnelkins20629 ай бұрын
Strike King 4” dream shot.. It is a drop shot bait, but it really comes alive as a chatterbait trailer, and it is low drag like you talked about, I use a little chartreuse dye on the tail end sometimes and it is 🔥.

Try putting the paddle tale facing I up instead of down. I use a rage menace rigged vertically instead of horizontal. You may try the same thing with your craw bait.
@LowBrowFishing9 ай бұрын
I often rig my craws sideways on all my jigs. I find that it more resembles a fish's tail that way.

Greatly appreciate your content I'm a shore fisherman so every advantage I can learn from accomplished angler's like you is a HUGE help I watch YT how to bass fishing channels like yours literally EVERY day and you are unquestionably among the most helpful for shore angels like me. Please keep it up You are absolutely correct about boot foot trailers working better in some circumstances like cold temps in March and pre-spawn temps of April by me and this year I tried both straight tail fluke trailers and boot foot trailers and once I switched to boot foots same trip I immediately saw a dramatic increase of catching fish by literally over 400% (9 bass vs only 2) so did my sons We actually did the same experiment 2x using same exact setups line and chatterbaits one had a Hog Farmer straight tail trailer one had a made for BP Keitech boot foot fat swim bait I custom colorized/dyed both be the same color to match the chatterbait We repeatedly switched setups to insure if we were fishing the bait differently it didn't matter Without exception on three different smaller (very high pressure) 3lbs using chatterbaits with boot foot trailers it also made a distinctive difference by us retrieving the chatterbaits as slowly as we could and still stay JUST barely above the weeds and jerked the bait about 1' up 5-8x during our retrieve Great immeasurably helpful content

I ran out of flukes one day while I was out fishing so I used one of my paddle tail soft-plastic baits. I simply bit the sides off of the paddle of the paddle tail leaving me with a soft plastic trailer that had just as little drag on my chatter bait as the flukes I use. The added benefit for me was that my paddle tail lure had a more realistic color pattern to it so it all worked out well. I caught fish with it so to me, that meant I wouldn't have to buy two different types of soft plastic baits anymore. I could just use a paddle tail with the modified paddle.

I can see that working well.

Awesome info!! I have a question about using a paddle tail. If you cut the paddle off along the rounded portion and leave a "tail" style end .....would it work?
@LowBrowFishing9 ай бұрын
It should work just fine. Anything to reduce the drag will create more action.
@Lowe1609 ай бұрын
Love the comparisons. I've tried using a fluke but have trouble getting the hook through the body of flukes with split bellies. I've tried cutting the paddle tail off some of my soft swim trailers as an alternative.
@LowBrowFishing9 ай бұрын
Try turning the fluke around the other way and come out the top. That's how I rig mine.
@tRexOnVacation9 ай бұрын
You dont have to thread it all the way down the thin part of the back. Just hook straight through the nose and out of the belly of the slit. Slide the fluke up to the keeper and then flip it over and just go up through the slit out the back

Caffeine shad is my favorite. Said that before I watched. Now I add an edit. The real difference comes with pops twitches and changes in speed of the bait which causes the darting action.

Trailers with less water resistance should more easily run deeper too. I wonder what a Senko would do as a trailer.
@LowBrowFishing9 ай бұрын
It does run a bit deeper, but the blade still gives it a bit of lift.

I was hoping you rigged the paddle tail upside down as I heard most anglers who swear by it rig it that way. Try that next time you make a underwater chatterbait trailer video to see how it runs.
@LowBrowFishing9 ай бұрын
I really don't see what difference that would make. But I still might try it one day. I think the boot tail will still be creating drag and hurting the action of the blade, though.

I believe the Skirt hurts the action more than anything . It slows the bait down, keeps it way up in the water column Besides what in nature has a skirt ?? A skirt less 3/8 oz will run deeper than a 1/2 oz skirted If you want to keep a skirt less bladed jig up in the water column , then use a boot tail or Bigger craw trailer I use the original ZMAN Chatter, or the Strike King Thunder Cricket because it’s easy to remove the skirt and one of them the skirt is garbage to begin with. Please give this a test as well
@LowBrowFishing9 ай бұрын
Skirts are important because they add bulk and movement to the bait. There are times when I remove the skirt on a bladed jig, such as when I use a chattertube. I might do a video on that at some point.
@RickWebb-nn6hy9 ай бұрын
@@LowBrowFishing That’s exactly what I put on my skirt less Chatters . A tube bait , I use a small dia 2.75” tube . Runs very deep for me

Like to add I can see unless Im wrong you're using pretty sure an Abu García Max Pro4 baitcaster I was in search of this spring a few new baitcasting reels for myself and my sons (my sons much more than myself) My budget was $50 each I have three older vintage 1990's Abu García 4500's that are still going strong and absolutely love them Unfortunately at that time the Abu García Max Pro4's were $80-90 each definitely out of my price range Then the good lord smiled on me and I found AG Max Pro4's on sale on Ebay for UNDER $50 TMD (actually was $48.10 TMD) I bought one tried it out for a 8hr day of fishing very next day I was so impressed with it for a UNDER $50 baitcaster I promptly bought three more, then my boys loved them so much I bought three more. My sons and I been using the new Abu García Pro Max4's 3-4 times a week for the last almost seven weeks straight fishing Chatterbaits spinnerbaits crank baits jerk baits and jigs from .25oz to .625oz and are still amazed how well these
