@@luketilley9137 I'd recommend a lavender orpington roo instead - crossing his lavender gene with your jersey girls will probably make for beautiful plumage in the chicks! Same benefits of a good roo, but with pretty babies

Never heard of Bielefelder breed - we have rhode island reds, Plymouth barred, easter egger, and golden comets!

Those are all nice birds and we've had a few of those too! We got Bielefelders a few years back and really enjoy them.

Gorgeous birds, our chicks are arriving next week and we cannot wait! Having good personalities is #1 on our list, we cant keep mean roosters but we want a sustainable flock.

Thanks for commenting! I think a lot of factors can go into why birds stop laying, but we've not experienced that.

Our Bielefelder rooster is very aggressive. I have to carry a broom when I do anything with the hens. He charges at us and is always doing his dance warning us he is not liking us on his turf. Every chance he gets he will charge after us even when we are walking away. The most docile rooster we have owned is the lavender Orpington. Nothing compares to the sweet temper and friendliness of the lavender Orpington. I am disappointed in the Bielefelder.

How do you keep them in with that short fencing?

They typically stay in unless they get startled and sometimes one or two will fly over. They usually try to get back in by walking the fence line though. We do have one girl that jumps over the fence regularly lays an egg and then jumps back in. 😂
