The red marks on the heads of the male albinos is used in much the same way as the bristles, they are used as another show of dominance and used to attract females

I took a gamble and bought a young male bristlenose super red pleco on eBay, I had no idea that the specimen I received is fantastic! It arrived yesterday 6-30-21 was in my tank with 2 females I’ve had for about 4 months, he wasn’t in the tank for even 3 hrs, and he’s fanning eggs as I type this. Amazing!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to the winners! I’ve had the very yellow Longfin albinos and they are gorgeous! Hot tip for long fins though - no plastic plants; their fins get caught in them and tear... or the fish gets stuck.

The lemon blue eye is from linebreedin the reds! Hence sometimes the red ish mark on the head!!! Sometimes a redish tinge to the pectoral fin also! There are a few various types of albino genes! I've crossed a huge lemon blue eye with a normal, and they create the lemon drop, and some are long fin, totally georgous! I'm line breeding back to the lemon dad! Some have long fins longer than the body! I've grown mine to maturity as I want to pick the best for breeding! I had 100 in a 160L and maybe 60 in a 260L tank! Mostly males, I'd say 2/3 male! I was wondering if temperature was a factor in the ratio!?? I've a couple of vids on utube, not specific to pleco, but you may see some u like!?

Scored 4 long fin super reds locally for $10 each!! Great color, more orange then burnt orange, but still under 2 inches. I totally agree that 6 is is better, (hard to argue with math, lol!), but if these fail to pair, I'm happy to get a couple more and add genetics from another breeder.

Every time I have bred two albino bristlenose together 100% of the fry are albino. When I've bred a longfin to a short fin it leans to about 80% being longfin, both in albino and super red.
@FreshwaterIchthyology4 жыл бұрын
From memory long fin is a dominant allele, probably the only one we are certain is. So if you do that cross you did you have a 25% chance of short finned fry, although there is always an element of chance with genetics. This only works if the long finned parent is heterozygous for long fin and short fin so it carries both alleles but where the long finned gene is present only that is expressed. If the parent was homozygous, both alleles were for long finned all fry would be long finned. This is assuming the gene isn't on the x chromosome.

The green Dragon is actually a hybrid of 3 different Ancistrus there not a line breed strain from the stand ancistrus cirrhosus cf. but the ancistrus cirrhosus cf long fin was used to work in the long fins to create the long fin green Dragon.

Hi mate I was wondering if you know could or know of anyone who can ship some green dragons LF,SF and snow whites LF, SF to Australia about 500 of each as I’m a breeder here and unfortunately only bristlenose (all variations are legal here in Australia) can be shipped here .

@Wild Fish Tanks I challenge you to line breed midget Bristlenose plecos. Why?...some of us are hardcore aquascapers and need a fish that won't displace our aquascapes/art. Otocinclus are too demanding and they are not hardy. However, if some one with your experience could design us midget calicos, green dragons he'd make a name for himself. I hope it's something you will consider.

Just wondering where I can advertise and sell my plecos, mystery snails and mollies? You have some very nice plecos, I have calico, father brown mother albino or red (not sure). He is just 6 months old and bread with his mother after father passed. They have been very entertaining and I love watching them. I also have another calico male (more brown than orange) but he is in a tank separate from other bristlenose. These new fry (I counted over 120 as they were hatching) are only 2 days old but already seem to be showing at least darker coloring on some and others are more see through. Do your male plecos leave the eggs in the cave? Mine have both kicked them out after 2 days, then the first one stayed with his first clutch but out in the rocks. Then once they hatched they mostly stayed by him for about 2 weeks. Every other clutch he kicked out and then didn't watch over them. They eventually turned to mold or something. This one tried to keep them close but kept moving them around the tank, just before they hatched he had gotten the clutch separated into 3 portions in different areas, so I finally put them together in a breader box in the tank where they began hatching in less than 2 hours! Now they are all over the tank, unlike the previous group. I had to move the mollies and the mother out of the tank because they were trying to eat them, the mother actually did get one, that I saw.

It is likely not Ancistrus cirrhosus as the ancestor of the common bristlenose, there are quite a few likely species within the genus Ancistrus (Not family their family is Loricariidae). It would be more correct to say Ancistrus aff. cirrhosus, aff. meaning affinity so like A. cirrhosus but we don't think that is the likely species. The brown in my opinion is the wild-type which of their natural colouration although due to selective breeding there is a lot of range. Most varieties have multiple names used as sales ploy for example Pets at Home sells albinos as marigold bristlenoses. The blue eye would be a leucistic rather then albino, thank you for not referring to it as a different species as some do. Never heard of issues with the snow whites in the UK. But most people have issues with juveniles when buying such young fish.
