That’s better results than I thought you’d get. I garden in the mid-Atlantic. I can keep my herbs going outside all year by using frost blankets and plastic sheeting. I also harvest and freeze herbs, which is second best, but still better than dried.

This unit looks good. Since downsizing to an apt I've since gotten a bunch of aerogardens and like them a lot. Being able to cook with fresh herbs year 'round is nice.

One thing I can't overemphasize with any indoor garden is that you still need to "be a gardener", meaning you need to care for your plants, manage harvesting and pruning/trimming back, and planning around re-plant dates.
@CuttoothsRoom

@@LeanBodyMind very true. It was quite a learning curve going from an outdoor garden to the indoor hydroponic system. Knowing how and when to trim plants was key so they grow properly in the limited space.

I have thought about making this purchase for quite some time, however, I have limited counter space and a cat that loves to gnaw on greens. So, I would have to find a cat-free location in order to be successful. I’ll keep thinking about that because I would LOVE to have fresh herbs year round!

We had to dedicate a whole garden bed to grow the herbs we need for cooking, so I was under no illusion that this could supply all our needs. 😂 It will be useful for herbs like basil that are better grown indoors when you live in the north of England. As most of the rooms in our house are fairly dark, this piece of kit is perfect for our situation. (Cheshire, UK 🇬🇧)

My grandson loves making little caprese salads and he loves cherry tomatoes, so he loves having this during the long Wisconsin winters. On the subject of not being under illusions, anyone that expects to grow 7 plants in this is going to be disappointed. 3-4 is a lot more reasonable, especially if they are basil and tomatoes.

@@LeanBodyMind That’s what we thought, so we’ve only planted in four out of the nine pots.

Thank you! It was just at Home Depot earlier today looking at these type of things wondering if I should start growing my own herbs. This was perfect timing!
@LeanBodyMind
@LeanBodyMind Жыл бұрын
If you do get one, I'd advise getting the seedless pod plants and then buy herb seeds from a garden center. I found that the varieties of herbs they use have pretty small leaves vs what I'd expect (oregano, basil, rosemary, mint, etc.).

Nope. I contacted Click & Grow and they sent me a new 3-pack of grow pods - no questions asked (well, they did ask to see a picture of it and they were stumped as well).

Thank you for the review! How did the tomatoes do?
@LeanBodyMind
@LeanBodyMind Жыл бұрын
I find that tomatoes and lettuce are kind of a waste of space in this, unless you plan on transplanting them outside to a container garden. Otherwise, they kind of encroach on your herbs and still don't have enough space to get to a decent size.

Whatever is in the Click & Grow pods is definitely not thyme. Now I just get their "empty" pods and add my own seed.

@LeanBodyMind
@LeanBodyMind Жыл бұрын
This has better spacing between pods and the roots are a lot better contained. I found that the Aerogarden got pretty scuzzy on the inside and the roots were just out of control. Also, this doesn't have a pump in it, which makes for one less thing to clean or that could stop working.

I have both. The growth is a lot slower on the Click & Grow. And the default pods confine the roots and they get root bound after a few weeks. You can see something about that on my channel. I moved my plants out of the C&G to keep them going. The C&Gs do look nice, and they do stay fairly clean. But, they will never outgrow an AeroGarden.

Did you ever find out what that “Thyme” plant actually was?
@LeanBodyMind
@LeanBodyMind Жыл бұрын
I did not, but I did another re-plant about a month ago and I've seen/tasted more odd behavior from their seed pods. The oregano looks like thyme, but tastes like oregano. The tarragon looks like tarragon but tastes like a weed. Going forward, I'm going to use their empty pods and my own seeds.

It is cheaper at least for me, fresh produce is so expensive and its always wilted and never lasts, for me and my family this is a whole lot better and gives us less food waste as we harvest when we need.

Blessed to live in Southern California so our growing season is much longer than yours. But I still enjoy having a countertop herb garden and I often keep one lettuce in it so I can jrab a leaf for a sandwich or hamburger. (With NO bread or bun, of course.) Enjoyed your review.

My first impression when I saw this GSG system was that this is just an office gadget. That impression has not changed after this video. I mean if you have to feed your family on GSG grown lettuce, this is not going to end well. That being said, it might be an intersting teaching kit for children. IIRC there are also smaller versions of this setup. :)

I'm pretty sure this isn't marketed to feed your family on roughly 2 square feet of space. If this were supposed to feed my family, one of the seed pods better produce a cow. 😉
