I’ve raised cattle all of my life, and have yet to see a tame Brahman cow. The wildest cattle I have ever dealt with. Angus cattle can also be very flighty. For hardiness, a crossbred cow will serve you best. Black Baldy (hereford x angus), mated to a simangus (simmental x angus) theses crosses have a long lifespan, their calves grow extremely fast, and they can endure temperatures of 100+ to -40 F. I’m now raising black baldy cows mated to British White; benefits include even more hardiness, better quality of meat, easier birth, and docility.

I have limousine and I’ve found them to be great for my small farm. Mine work easily and a few of my buddy’s have them and they all are very easy to work. Guess a lot depends on how you treat and work your animals.

Wow, that's an interesting commentary (as well as the video) about the Limousine Breed. I say this because I have read that this breed particularly with the bulls can be or has the reputation for being temperamental or rather a little dangerous and not the breed for novice cattlemen. Do you own any bulls of the breed and what's your experience with them or are your cattle only cows and heifers? Thanks
@michaelousley4133 Жыл бұрын
@@kennethcunningham9496 both my buddy’s have bulls. You can walk right up to them in the field and pet them. I do t have a bull but have 5 600 pound steers. I can’t pet mine but I get right up with in few feet. Never had issues I’ve only got 13 total as of now 2 are pregnant and I can lock them in a 20x 20 pin and get in with them feed them what ever only a few will let me touch them on the head but never had any try to be mean they may get away when I get to close. Maybe I’m just lucky but I go check my buddy’s herd for him multiple times and biggest problem I’ve had them wanting g to rub on you for feed or head scratches but never a single issue he’s had his about 13 years.

@@kennethcunningham9496I have work Limousines in the past and they were nuts. Most of what was said is true except for the part about temperament. I saw them jump fences break fences, charge you, and generally be wild. Not a breed for a novice!

@@fbennett6656 You confirmed my thoughts... now, as a potential candidate, for cross breeding; I don't find that this breed contributes much to a successful terminal cross in terms of carcass value up grading (IMO, I would prefer Charolais or Simmental, if not Red Angus) nor as an exceptional candidate for a F1 composite breed development program.

We used to have black cows and AI'ed to a championship simmental bull. Other farmers stopped to tell me they did not like their color but they always brought top dollar at the sale barn. Dexters are a fairly gentle and are dual purpose cattle producing great grass fed beef and pretty good on-demand milkers.

Angus are not docile,they ate nearly as cross as limousin. Hereford is the only docile breed you mentioned.
@albertcook63735 ай бұрын
Angus cattle are okay. The only problem I've had with Angus are the bulls have a high libido and will jump a fence or tear it down to get to cows that are in estrus. They do respect a hotwire fence, though.
