😊 Hi Linda just thought you'd Like to know that Allspice is NOT A MIXTURE of spices! It is the unripened Berry of the Allspice Tree , in the Caribbean is where it Grows. They also use the Leaves of this Tree in soups and stews ! In The same manner that we would use Bay Leave in our Cooking 🍎THANKS FOR SHARING this delicious 🍎Apple Butter Recipe!

Jainy Murphy I didn’t know this about Allspice. Funny how I thought it was different spices for many years. Ha! Now I’m going to read the back of a jar at the grocery store and buy some to have for future use. Thanks for posting this in the comments (though I know it was geared for Linda). 😁

I just started with water bath first now I'm looking at a pressure canner, excited but nervous about moving to the next step. The quality of my products is the driving force for me to do more. Your videos are so down to earth & user friendly. Thanks for making videos, Louise

I've made this apple butter and it's so perfect! My peepaw sends my momma with all his apples to me and after he had one jar he told her to tell me he will buy them all! I told him no need to pay me just provide me the apples and (please) return the empty jars and I will keep it coming! Making another batch tonight with what he says is the last of the apples off of his solo apple tree. Gonna have to find me an apple tree lol! Thank you Linda 🤗 I love your videos ❤️

Not to bring some creepy to these comments but you had a large orb in your video at 13:46. And for getting that orb on this kinda normal recorder means its kinda special. It's also not dust because it curves and flies up dust falls down and never curves like that. Also its not a bug because her kitchen is always spotless.

Seems to me that your apple butter would taste just like your apple pie filling? In my area we don't use spices, we cook our apples down with 2 Tlbs vinegar and sugar. After that get cooked down and thick we use pure cinnamon oil as our flavoring. Start with a few drops, adding a little at a time. Taste until you you like it. I think more is better! I have a big pot cooking now. Oh watch yourself when adding the cinnamon oil, it can take your breath. Give it a try! Cathy Wv.

I also make and can crockpot apple butter every year, but do not bother to peel the apples; they cannot be detected after using the immersion blender, and the peels are good for you! Also, allspice is not a blend of spices (a common misconception) - I have whole allspice berries. I SO enjoy all your videos, and get as excited as you do about canning and gardening, and always look forward to watching your videos!

FYI, allspice is a spice of its own, named allspice because it tastes like a combination. I use allspice in place of cloves due to an allergy.
@antpop1605
@antpop1605 5 жыл бұрын
Most kitchens have it in the spice rack, and if you take the top off, it'll smell a little like cloves mixed with cinnamon, nutmeg, juniper berries, and pepper. The thing is, it's none of those things, and it's definitely not a mixture of any of them -- allspice is a fruit picked before it's ripe from a tree (the flowering tropical evergreen Pimenta dioica), dried and either sold as whole "berries" or ground up. It takes about 5,700 berries to make a pound of allspice.

As I am home bound now, I have lots of time to watch You Tube & then one I came across the canning, & then YOU. Being almost 65, it is sometimes hard to understand people talking so fast to get everything in. When I was in my late 30's my new husband introduced me to canning & freezing. We always worked together to do up everything. But now there is just me & I 'm still buying food like I have 6 people to feed. Why? Because it is cheaper to buy in the larger sizes. I started with the bag sealing system, but watching the differant prep shows I keep hearing the same thing, what if you have no electric & don't get it back for awhile/ I went over to my freezer, looked inside & it shocked now much food I would lose. I'm totally starting from scratch, so I've been writing list like crazy so that I can have everthing I'll need. Thank-you.

I followed the recipe and measurements but my apple butter tastes bitter from one of the spices.I'm thinking either all - spice or ground cloves? How to fix it. I didn't process the jars yet. Should I just add more apples or it can't be saved? Any help will be appreciated. Follow up: so for me this was an apple-butter fail because I didn't know how to fix the bitterness of the butter. I added more apples, cooked some more and I got beautiful texture but I couldn't stand the bitter taste of it. Too much of some spice . I discarded it :( I'm not giving up though, I'll do it again but I'll cut all spice and cloves significantly. Mrs. Linda, what are your thoughts? Please find a minute to answer. I would appreciate that.

I wish I could help as I also made this just like Linda instructs but mine was wonderful. I add lots of cinnamon, and add the rest of the spices tasting in between to be sure its perfect as cloves are very strong ect. hope this helps... One thing I did learn is to be aware of how much lemon as some apples are tart enough without it but some batches were made with really sweet apples and may need a little
@kingabrown8803

Thank you. I learned my lesson with this recipe.I'm not going to fully trust the recipe every time. I had a feeling that the recipe called for too much of ground cloves and I should stick to my gut feeling as I couldn't fix the bitterness and entire batch went down the drain. I made a batch later on with different recipe and it was wonderful.

I think I do love canning as much as you. I made triple berry jelly last night while I was trying to keep my mind off of a very sick uncle. I must have messed up somewhere because I ended up with syrup. What a problem right. I will enjoy that and make another batch of jelly. I remember my Grandmothers peels being so long. My mom would have contests to see who could have the longest peel. As I'm older I realize it was so there would be less waste. I had a problem the last time I used my peeler. It dug into the apple. I played with it with no success. Do you or any of your viewers have any hints for that? And what kind of hunting is that? I have never heard of it. Can't wait to see the other videos on your apples. Thank you.

One year, I canned up a little bit of everything from my garden and my neighbor's fruit trees and one of the things I made from a recipe I found in a turn of the century cookbook, was a chutney with apples, raisens, and walnuts in it, among other things I can't remember, but it was absolutely delicious. The trouble is, I am not positive of the name of the cookbook and can't find mine, as after several moves, it just disappeared. Do you have, or could you come up with a similar chutney recipe for canning? We served ours on the side with roast pork and or pork chops.

How did we go from coring the apples to suddenly pouring the apple butter into jars? I don't mean to be rude, so please take this as constructive criticism. This is a little scattered, it would be much more helpful to stick to one thing and follow through. I found the going backwards a little confusing being a 'first timer'.

Hi-I'm new to this and enjoying your videos! You have such a pleasant melodic narration too : ) I have no clue what you meant by: "immersion blender in the morning"! And how long do we crock pot this? Overnight on low? Please clarify for us newbies. Thanks so much!
