Wow! So lucky to see all the wildlife! When the tide was low, it looked like there were starfish and jellyfish. I think it might be clams that were squirting the water up in the sand - they burrow down in the sand. Bears like to dig them up and eat them.

I was thinking clams as well! I also learned since making the video that the giant purple sea stars are the largest sea stars in the world, and are called sunflower sea stars!

We were on the Bliss last week. We had a blast. I want to go back but want more time on land exploring! Lots and lots of bald eagles. Whales too.

I'll be there mid June. I'll be going to the hiking trails at the top of the mountain. Not sure if I'll walk into town.
@journeywiththejaneks6 ай бұрын
I would love to hear how the hiking trails were. We were bummed that the gondola to the top wasn't open yet.

Hey guys new sub here! I’m cruising to Alaska again in a week, icy is the only new port so that’s how I found y’all!

The water squirting out of the sand is from clams under the sand.

Great video! This looks like my kind of town! Thanks for sharing with us! If you get a chance as Floridians you should watch the documentary that was done on the Orca whales being captured and used at Sea World, "Blackfish"....they are extremely intelligent and powerful.

Thanks for another great video! I have a question, when you guys took the free gondola back to the ship, then which way did you guys walk to get to Honnah? I missed that. We’re going on the same exact cruise beginning of July . Thanks again!
@journeywiththejaneks6 ай бұрын
To walk to Hoonah, go towards the old cannery building. That's the direction you want to go to head to downtown. Just continue to hug the coastline as you head out of the cannery and past the donut stand. You may be the only one walking that way, and it may not seem like you can walk out that way, but you can.

When did you cruise to Alaska. Because we are going in May of 2025. And, I wanted a reference to what we may find with the weather.
@journeywiththejaneks2 ай бұрын
We went in April. This was the first cruise of the entire season, we were the only ship in Alaska. The week after us had beautiful weather, completely different from us! So be prepared for anything!

Enjoying all your videos! Thank you. Do you feel it’s more uphill one way on that trail? We want to do the same thing, walk one way, gondola the other way. But I’d prefer to walk “downhill”. Hope you can understand what I’m asking! LOL. Thanks for your help!
@journeywiththejaneks7 ай бұрын
After doing both ways, I think that the way we went was less hilly (walking from Ocean Landing to Wilderness Landing). There are some hills both ways, but from what I recall, the way back was tougher.

Gondola looks cool....cost?
@journeywiththejaneks7 ай бұрын
The one we went on was completely FREE! The one that goes to the top of the mountain was closed when we went, so I am not sure what the cost on that one is.
@CH-ox9li7 ай бұрын
Is the gondola free that takes you back to the cruise port?
@journeywiththejaneks7 ай бұрын
The one that we took is free. If you want to go to the top of the mountain that's a separate one you have to pay for.
