Earlier this year I ordered the complete kit of 10 sauces used in the show (I had to get daBomb as a separate order) as a birthday gift to myself. I then proceeded to do my own little hot ones session where I recorded my experience eating chicken wings drenched in the hot sauces and sent it to various family members as I moved along the sauces. The first 7 sauces were no problem at all. However when I reached daBomb...Jesus freaking christ. I can honestly say that I panicked because it was so freaking hot. In about 5 - 10 minutes I downed a quarter gallon of milk. I was just pacing back and forth through my apartment trying to endure the pain. It was freaking horrible. Sauce nr 9 and 10 was not nearly as hot as daBomb. They were even mild in comparison. Now I did this around 6 - 7 PM. At around 3 AM I woke up and needed to go to the facilities where I then spent the next 30 - 45 minutes. That was in some respects even worse than the intake had been. So yeah, I am impressed over how many on the show are composed and I have a completely new respect for their capability to endure daBomb.

Honest question: how are the last 2 milder than the Bomb, if they're higher in scovilles? Is it just like in comparison ... if you tried them separately, did they bite harder?

My theory at first was that having drinked milk to lessen the effects of da bomb I had a thin protective coating in my mouth which in turn lessened the effect of the last two. So about a month later I tried the last two by themselves and while they were freakishly hot da Bomb is still worse. As you say, technically the last two should be worse but for whatever reason da Bomb stomps on both of them. And you sort of see it in the show as well since almost no person reacts as strongly to the last two sauces as they do with da Bomb.

@@dennikstandardmy family and I did the hot wings thing last New Year’s Eve and my theory after suffering in exactly the same way was that you basically reach maximum pain with ‘da bomb’ and so any sauce afterward doesn’t seem to hurt as much as you’ve basically just hit the max you can process. It’s hard to describe but the pain was so intense that I wanted to cut my tongue out.

As someone that has had Da Bomb I can feel everyone’s pain. I was like 18 years old, got a bottle at a hole in the wall restaurant (great restaurant btw that is still around in another location). My family owned a bowling alley at the time and a couple of friends and I decided to try it. Just a tiny amount on the end of a toothpick. I was literally running in circles in front of the Coke machine looking for something to drink. The only thing that calmed it in the end was Tums.

Great season this year! I have done the Da Bomb challenge three times in the past few years. It is listed as 135,000 Scoville, but unofficial listings give it a range between 135k to 2.5 million. I can say in the three times i have tasted that battery acid in a jar, that i have experienced the range and my hat is off to you Sean for doing that nonsense over 230+ times.
