Here are my TOP, FAVORITE DARK/BLACK-ISH PAINT COLORS. I’m a HUGE fan of dramatic paint colors in the right spaces, especially a good powder room! Here are a few favorite, tried & true super dark paint colors that bring the drama of black but offer a little warmth and/or softness.
There are a ton of great colors out there, these are the ones I turn to. Hopefully, even if you choose a different hue, my tips for choosing the right dark shade are helpful.

I recently painted my bedroom a dark forest green walls & ceiling, it made my room look bigger & I sleep during the day sometimes so it's great with blockout curtains. I went light for carpet & curtains in natural tones. So in love with my space & so glad I was bold enough to try it XD. Also painted my living room all white but behind the tv & black tv unit I painted black chalkboard paint & it makes it blend in to the wall & you don't see the dvd player, antenna & cords as clutter as they disappear in the black.

Great vid! So many ppl are afraid of going dark but as u mentioned dark colors recede, and look very dramatic, especially against white baseboards and light art. Having windows or good light in the room helps as well. I did my kitchen in black chalkboard paint against white cabinets years ago, it was fabu!

Love this! I painted my small guest bedroom a dark peacock blue, and my powder room is an eggplant purple. I love how cozy it makes both, and I get tons of compliments!

Yes! You are so great! I painted my bathroom a really dark swampy blue inspired by your black bathroom a few houses ago. I used the same paint on an accent “nook” in my bedroom. Sometimes I wish my who bedroom was dark and cozy.

You're God sent. I love black walls and I've always wanted to try it. I have creme bedroom furniture. I did a creme wall and accented it with black but for some reason I seems to can't get the right shade colors. After watching your video, the lightbulb went on. Thank you so much. We just painted our master bedroom Tricorn Black (Sherwin-Williams full-on Black). Gold metallic ceiling. Black window and door trim, too. It looks so deluxe and glamorous. So glad we did it. And I started typing this before you said this color in your list!

I painted a sitting room wall a chartreuse green that was a wrong match in the discount bin of Lowes. I then made a design in white over it. I added a beige couch with a Kate Spade blue and gold accent lamp and a vintage round mirror. I added rich blue pillows and a fur throw. I followed it up with a fiddle fig and vintage finds. Most everything was thrifted and the paint ended up costing me around $4. The accent white paint I already had. Would love for you to see it finished!! You afe amazing and I love your videos!!

All those colors are stunning! One of my biggest pet peeves is to here someone disregard dark colors because they think it will make their space seem smaller…. In most cases, as long as the room has some natural light, dark colors can really trick the eye and mind into the sense of space. Yet they also produce a cozy feel instead of the cold feel that some lighter colors bring. One of my all time favorite colors is Calligraphy by Behr, I’ve painted it in most of the different sheens with great results and I’ve painted it interior, exterior, and on furniture pieces. The Hague Blue ( top last right) looks like what I did my living & dining room, but I use Dark Storm Cloud by Behr with black wrought Iron accents and white Moulding, really love the colors here

I am probably a few months from doing the paint I want. Moving into our new house this week and I have thought of doing a deep moody charcoal in my office space or a deep matte blue/navy in there. Contrast with sharp whites and warm woods. I feel like it'd be the typical "guy" room but majority of my friends and family are way too scared to paint their rooms dark (including the ceiling). I want to see how that works. Add a mirror across from the window to help bring more light in and accentuate the space.

Matte, flat or semi gloss or high gloss for kitchen cabinets. Base cabinets basically.

Fun fact: some red tones are not a 2 coat job. Some tones of red, even with primer can take up to 7 coats to get the actual color

What would you suggest with low cealing, lige so low you thing its basement (thank God we are small people :D ), but we live in a little house and the loft is also not that high and very sloopy walls. It is not extreamly light nor dark. But I love your suggestion on a black paint on the wall with the TV, I might be convinced. It is since 2012 we moved to the house and I have still not find the perfect paint or wallpaper. Always love your videos :)

Mickie Halpern Totally! That’s the thing about paint which feels obvy as I write this but it’s really about the space that it’s in. Depending on light, decor etc, the color can take on a totally different feeling. Plus, I think most paint looks waaaay darker on the wall than a tiny chip. 😘😘😘

Hey Mary! So, I want to diy some thrifted ceramics and get that ultra brass shiny effect like a Jonathan Adler brass piece, but I am unsire of how to achieve it. I figure it would be a shiny metalic spray but then would you add a clear shiny finish spray or lacquer spray? Both? Any help?

Question... think of painting my bedroom off black, I have oak wood trims all around my room and Victorian style windows, beige carpet, the only thing I’m torn on is my ceiling is partially slanted on the sides and flat on the very center (it’s a loft room) what color do I paint my ceiling?
