I noticed on the top of yours the intake vent appears a little dirty. A few minutes ago I took the top off of mine and cleaned out the dust it had accumulated. On the bottom of the lid are 6 screws in an outside ring. If you remove those, the top will come off but the motor will stay attached. Lifting off the top you can wipe off the dust that it draws in. I love mine. I have 11 trays + fruit leather trays and just dehydrated about 40lbs of grapes from our backyard vines. They are amazing! After running the grapes through my Blendtec and drying they aren't even chewy - they dissolve like cotton candy in your mouth. This is really a great purchase for under $70 at Amazon and worth upgrading with more trays if you use it. Every year for Christmas I give family baskets of dehydrated fruit and jerky. It's a more personal gift and they really enjoy it. The only surprise is what the mix will be.

I'm so glad to see a review for this Nesco model, so many reviews are for the very expensive Excalibur models. I've had my Nesco FD-60 food dehydrator for 7 or 8 years now and I just love it. It's similar to this one but slightly smaller. I originally bought it to make sweet potato rawhides for my dog which he loves but are rediculously expensive to buy in pet stores for some reason. If you like to grow your own vegetables, herbs & fruits, you need one of these. It's a great alternative to throwing everything in the freezer. And if you like camping, it saves a ton of money when you make your own dehydrated meals that just need water and a little heat to reconstitute them. Dehydrate some spaghetti sauce like you would make fruit roll ups. Then just add it and some water to a saucepan & heat it through. I also love that the fan & motor are in the lid, making clean up a lot easier without all the messy drips getting into it. I'll sometimes use the fruit roll trays on the very bottom of the machine to catch drips from more watery fruits & veggies like tomatoes.

Thank you for your video. I've always wanted a dehydrator, so I bought this Nesco Professional a week ago through Amazon, $72 with free shipping. I made dog treats for my Golden Retriever, instead of buying junk for her at the store (one never knows what goes into dog treats). Yesterday, I ordered another one to give my niece, as well as many more trays and screens. Thank you for your review - it was sooooo helpful. Debbie

Tawny, I've learned that the plastic mesh canvases used for crafts are safe to use for screens when dehydrating. This is a super frugal way to have more screens! A couple of the craft mesh canvases are only around $1. I've watched a couple women on You Tube make them or talk about them....& one of them contacted the company to find out if they are safe for food use. So! there ya go! A couple of the Nesco screens on Amazon are $12. So, talk about a savings by making your own, huh?!

I own the same Nesco that you do. I also own a nine tray expensive Excalibur. I prefer the Nesco! It is so much quieter than my Excalibur! The Excalibur vibrates so bad you have to pull the trays out every half hr to the point that you can't close the cover door properly to fit. My Nesco is so quiet I can barely hear it and it does a great job on everything and anything! I rotate trays on both just by choice and I don't mind. Nesco is much more fun!!! I use both but I favor Nesco!

I have this dehydrator and I really love it. My sister got it for me and a garage sale. It seemed completely new. I still had jerky packages that someone had never used. I guess the only thing I wish it had was an on off button. It seems odd to just pull the plug out of the wall to shut it off and turn it on. There are times I like to shut it when I’m checking it to see how things are progressing and I have to unplug it to do that.

I had this exact model and I loved it, The problems I had were, the mesh allowed corn. peas and carrots fall through. If you buy extra mesh it gets expensive do I make more mesh from plastic mesh canvas. It is easy and cheap. For the price this is great but my heater sort of lost some heat making frying take longer. I bought the Excalibur since the Nesco was just not big enough and it has a timer. I will never through out my nesco because it is still good, Nice video thank you

Should I keep all the trays in the stack when dehydrating food on one tray ?
@QuantumMechanic_885 жыл бұрын
rebel rouser - I don't have a Nesco , but have 2 Harvest Maid with 8 stacks each . In my opinion , if you are going to use 1 tray , put it in the middle of all trays and get better airflow around it while dehydrating . Am building a third large dehydrator . Using a 150 watt heat lamp and a small low voltage fan from an old computer . It can also be used outside on a sunny day . All the best .

I'm wondering if you could provide a little update on this. It's been 4 years (almost) since you posted this. We have had an American Harvest dehydrator (now owned by Nesco) for about 25 years & like it very much. It's heat & fan are on the bottom. Our first dehydrator was a Ronco which has no temp control & no fan. We sent it back! I'm thinking about getting a new Nesco one but not sure which to get. Some reviewers say the temps aren't accurate. Could you share more about yours & your experiences, please? Thank you!!

Hi Pat! 4 years in and ours still runs like a champ. No issues at all. If mine broke I would absolutely buy the same one again. I cant weigh in on the other one you mentioned since I have never tried it. Hope that was helpful. Thanks!
@patwagner93086 жыл бұрын
Tawny S. Just what I wanted to hear. Ours is made by same company as yours. And you love your model even after quite a few years use. I'm convinced to stick w/ Nesco brand. I think there are advantages to Nesco ones besides lower price. Having an edge ("lip") keeps food from rolling or sliding off. I just dehydrated onions, garlic, sweet potato slices ( for our young female dog , Scout...)...& made beef jerky recently ...much better ( low salt!) than store bought). Always enjoy your videos...like having a little chat w/ a friend. Thank you, Tawny !
@patwagner93086 жыл бұрын
Tawny S oh...one other thing...have you checked the temps to see if they are accurate? I haven't on ours yet ( but will..it's running right now). Several reviewers said temps are off. Ours works well, tho, for being 25 yrs old. I would like one like yours...heat & fan on top is good idea. Hope you are having great summer, Tawny! 😊
@frugalgreengirl6 жыл бұрын
You dehydrator adventures sound fun! Thanks for sharing. I have never checked the temp on mine. I don't have a gadget that could do that so I cant, unfortunately. We are having a busy summer but its still been good. Nice getting to catch up with you! Thanks for stopping by!
@patwagner93086 жыл бұрын
Frugalgreengirl My timer has a temp probe on a wire which plugs into the side of the timer...you can set the timer at the temp you want food to reach & the timer will signal when that temp is reached. The probe can be inserted in a turkey (for example)...the timer is magnetic & can be on an appliance. I use it daily ! It counts up or down as well. Handy for so many reasons ! Fun talking w/ you !

I have the Nesco also... I make beef jerky once or twice a month... and occasionally dry some stuff on sale at the super market. The price compared to the Excalibur is a motivation in itself. IF you only use it once in a while, $49 compared to $193 for the CHEAPEST Excalibur model is a big motivation to buying the Nesco. It works fine. IF you do a lot of dehydrating, sure I can see spending 3X the dollars for the Excalibur model, but IF you only plan on a few times a month using it, how does spending 3X a dollar amount make ANY sense what so ever? I live in an apartment, not a farm, so there's not much opportunity to grow my own herbs and spices...or anything else. I've seen the Excalibur, and yeah the controls make you think "oh sure", but unless you plan on a lot of stuff, why would you spend that kind of money? The remarkable thing is, all the prep is the same. So like I said, unless you plan on a lot of dehydrating, why do you NEED the Excalibur? Extra trays and screens aren't that expensive from Nesco, all you can do with the Excalibur is buy another one.
