I think the peavey sounded best. more of presence on stage kind of feel and the crunch the mids are just tight

The katana is one of the most versatile amps that a ever seen. If you own a katana , no matter witch version, a strongly suggest searching for an airstep kat edition footswitch on you tube ... It turn the entire amp into a full pedalboard. It's WAY better than the Ga-FC footswitch that boss sells for the amp. The airstep works with every version of the katana and has a lot more features. Just a tip ! Amazing video !

There's a reason Boss has sold so many Katanas. I have two of the 100 watt versions, Mk I & Mk 2. To get the most out of the amp download the Sneaky and Dumble amps. Crank the Master Volume.

Cool. Do you have the link as to where I can download it? I have the MKII 100

How do we go about getting those?

i'm a katana user, and i think the catalyst was the best sounding one. having a plethora of features (especially on the software side) is, i think, the selling point of the katana. especially for bedroom performers like me.

I have both, and agree. The Katana has a larger range of tones, effects, and boost/ODs, and more flexibility in combinations of same, and is easier to use EVERYTHING, or most of it from the physical controls. But, I find the Catalyst much easier to just dial in great tones from just the amp, no app. Katana, I had to use the app, if just to set global EQs to set both low and high cut's to reduce the harmonics that make the distortied tones sound artificial. And I run the better Waza SPEAKER IN MY kATANA 100 mk2.

Nice video, thank you! Just fyi regarding the Blackstar : you have full EQ controls (bass, mid, high, presence, etc) stable via the PC/Mac USB interface. You can then store your EQ settings back into the amp associated with each preset and also “default” EQ for each voice. Agree it would be nice if these knobs existed on the panel. I have both the Blackstar and the Vyper, and like the Blackstar better for jamming/recording at home. Peavey, as you can imagine, is much much louder, but more work to get nice sounds imho.

in my view, the CATALYST jazz tone was great.the Katana rock tone was great and a better pedal platform.the VYPYR lead tone was better couse its higher treble will cut trough in a live playing gig, BLACKSTAR TO ME,IS a better desk amp than a performance amp, but its cleans are sparkling.HELLO FROM TEXAS

From your vid, my ranking on Tone alone (suggestion, add a section, with each amp, back to back, to back) 1. Catalyst 2, Katana 4. Peavy 5. Blackstar

The Boss Katana Mk2 100 is still my favourite combo 👍 I’ve also got the Boss Waza air headphones that are outstanding 😎👍 I’ve recently bought the new Boss Katana Bass combo and it’s amazing 👍😎👌

FWIW, the equivelent in tech level to the other 3, for the Blackstar is the Silverline series (What the ID:TVP became), not the ID Core. I had a Silverline, Katana and Catalyst. I now only have the Catalyst and Katana. Silverline was overall, best sounding and feeling, or at least a tie. BUT, it was so limited on the physical connections.

I got the katana 100 mk2 in white and the foot switch. You have to run the computer app to realy dial it in, but its pretty good. I figured it would be great to help me dial in my tones before upgrading to a tube amp and pedals, i would like to do alot less guessing at that price point. All of the amps are good for that.

It really sounds close to a tube I can literally get Marshall to Mesa Boogie like tones ! Another amp that’s a close 2nd to me is the Line 6 Catalyst as well but dialing up tones and effects can be a pain .

I have both, kATANA AND cATALYST. Both here, and in my own experience, I find the Catalyst sounds best. The Katana has a larger range of tones, effects, and boost/ODs, and more flexibility in combinations of same, as well as signal chain flexability, by a bit. It is also easier to use EVERYTHING, or most of it from the physical controls. But, I find the Catalyst much easier to just dial in great tones from just the amp, no app. It's also better at the edge of breakup tones, imho Katana, I had to use the app, if just to set global EQs to set both low and high cut's to reduce the harmonics that make the distortied tones sound artificial. And I run the better Waza SPEAKER IN MY kATANA 100 mk2. When I first compared them, it was a brand new Catalyst (speaker) vs a broken in WAZA Loaded Katana.

I prefer the boss katana. It sounds better and he's easier to use.

I own a Katana, but in this video I don't think it sounded the best. I would rank them as follows: 1. Blackstar 2. Peavey 3. Boss 4.Line 6

In my opinion, the katana still is the king, sadly it doesnt have bluetooth connection but I dont even need it. as a katana head MKII user I dont feel that the catalyst is an upgrade big enough to consider buying it, the katana sounds good and you can tweak it enough to sound as you like.

Airstep katana footswitch adds bluetooth app support and it works on the Katana 50 as well. 3rd party but so useful

I would have liked to have you compare the Marshall Code series with that group of amps. Nice review all together

I excluded it on purpose. I chose only amps without displays, with a more direct approach

I use to have CODE25, currently have Katana 50MKII. Marshall was not even close. Don't get me wrong, it was nice practice amp, but it is not playing in the same league.
