Haha Gabe your videos crack me up, such a good time learning that way. I needed to see this today as I'm having troubles with my song challenge for the cover roulette game @DBO. The 8th notes on the ride are so fast (for me) that I was considering playing quarter notes instead. But you gave me the kick I needed to work on my Moeller technique and bring it home. Hopefully I can post a decent cover for you guys of " learning to fly" FF sometimes soon ✌️😆🤘. Keep being Amazing!

I'm trying to learn now, but in college percussion, I wasnt allowed to have thumbs pointing up. Its a totally a different motion from side thumbs. You definitely have a lot more available motion with thumbs pointed to the side, but thumbs up seems to have its own benefits ( and drawbacks). I get a much cleaner syncopated jazz type ride with thumbs up. I really started looking into it after seeing some of my drummer heroes playing with thumbs up; Steven Perkins is the one who really caught my eye. I'm sure it will be a debate until the end of time. If you can do both, you probably win the debate.

Gabe, you and many other drummers I've noticed work out and have very muscular arms. 1. Does working out at the gym improve drumming? 2. Are there exercises that you do specifically to contribute to drumming performance/technique?

Hahaha the pinky gave me a little giggle 😂 how about me practicing rudiments just now and realising my left pointer finger keeps ending up on top of my stick somehow 🥴

Classical percussion techniques... thumb up is generally considered "french" technique, thumb to the side is "germanic". Kit playing can and should utilize both, as demonstrated in this video

My dude Gabe out here cracking the code for everybody, good stuff. i find i struggle the most with kick power, i use dw9000 pedals and i have them pretty loose and setup for speed, but the drawback for that is unless im running thru the pa sometimes the power of the stroke isnt there on the double bass parts. Looks like I need to work on full leg, i primarily play heel up. Good video.

Is it normal that my leg keeps vibrating a lot after the beat? While playing heel up and burying the beater
@slatebook23849 ай бұрын
For the first technique you could show simple stroke to understand how it works. You don't realize cause you're so good now but this whole set of movements for only 1 hit is already extremely hard to integrate. I have been practicing it now for 1 hour on the pad with the right hand only and I still don't get it. I don't feel it, i'm pretty sure I'm doing the thingy wrong. I'm not a beginner exactly, I'm a pianist and a guitarist and I can perfom some simple grooves on drum.

When in doubt, pinky out. Great video. Gives me some more options on the kit. Go Indiana Jones. Make sure you all get on the list everyone. Gabe is an amazing teacher. You can not go wrong. Hope to see you all there.

Haha great SpongeBob reference, but unfortunately not a motto we want for the kit! 😂
