I think I would have turned the bottle when photographing the top label so that it said Grey Goose (not ...Goose Grey...). The only thing that fails the realism test for me is the lack of attention to the reflection. The reflection of the bottle is not distorted by the ripples and there is no reflection of the bottom water splash. These additions would have nailed it. Otherwise, a nice final shot.
@connormoriarty6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Gaskell totally agree. I noticed the reflection thing a week or so later and fixed it.

Just saw your video for the first time today. very well explained. Thank you. I was wondering, (and perhaps you've done videos on this already, so my apologies if you have), have you ever done or consdered doing this shot in a fish tank so you can do your own water drops instead of using those from the net? if so, can you provide the link for the video? I'd love to see it if you have done one great job explaining ;)
@connormoriarty3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacqueline! Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video! I have done the whole fish tank setup countless times, but unfortunately I have not made a video about it. Using a tank to do this is a blast and a ton of fun, but definitely a lot of work. And though I’ve done it tons of times, it’s really just not possible to get an effect like this (unless you sample the splashes and composite them into your photo yourself). What you’re describing definitely feels more “real” and authentic and can look great (I have some photos on my website that are real splash). But to get this high end, commercial look with the perfect splash wrapping around the bottle, it’s easier to do what I did in this video. I think it works well here for a nice Vodka, but say I was shooting a face wash or other beauty product, I would probably go the route of a real splash to drive the authenticity.

Brandon Taylor I personally use a local distributor of glass and plexiglass for surfaces like this. Local buying builds relationships and often brings discounts. If not, we use ULINE.com or amazon. There are tons of great photography background websites, just do a quick google search.

Thats one hell of a camera stand. Is that fixed bottom and top too?

It's a typical mobile studio stand. Weighted and on wheels at the bottom. Can raise to 10 feet, it has an arm that can move up and around, and a typical 3 axis head. It is not fixed at the top.

where we can obtain splash photography?
@connormoriarty2 жыл бұрын
I don’t remember exactly where I got these specific splashes. But you can either search for them on popular stock image sites like iStock, or search on Google and use the filters to only show images that are free for commercial use and manipulation. Never use photos unless you’re sure you have the rights to use them. Good luck!

Dilliboi Rubirosa Wow, what a great comment. So you’re saying there’s only 1 way to do a photo shoot? That a 24 year old should be on the same level as the industry leader? That everyone should be on his level right off the bat? You’re the toxic side of the artistic community. How about you read all the comments from amateur beginner photographers who I’ve helped with this video? Go ahead, watch Karl Taylor all day. Watching and executing are 2 different stories my friend. Good try though.
