Excellent video, thank you!! It’s no surprise that Harambe bands are a step up. Great to know they’re layered and that the Harambe Butter will keep them in great shape. It’s also amazing to know that the tension on them is closer to using free weights!! Khalid is the best-he’s just a breath of fresh air and made my decision to go with Harambe so much easier.

I recently purchased the Harambe band bundle which are the first four bands . They are amazingly strong. I can barely budge the biggest band in the bundle. I have tons of other bands and they don't come close to these. In my opinion they are definitely worth the cost which I view more as an investment in my fitness.

if possible i'd love to hear you interview James Grage. His approach is like the complete opposite of Harambe and X3. He doesn't use bars or boards, he grips the bands themselves and uses molded bands instead of layered

I will look into that, but honestly, I kind of thought he was transitioning away from his company. I’ve had a few people comment to me that their customer service was essentially nonexistent this last year. I do like the stretchiness of their bands, but there’s no question they’re not in the same ballpark compared to other loop bands on the market as far as long-term quality and strength resistance. You certainly could use bands with just gloves or your hands, but there’s a certain point where once strength gets heavy enough, having a bar just feels better.

I bought a bag of tubular resistance bands (and the loop bands) during lockdown but never really knew what to do with them; then the gyms reopened and they got forgotten about. I'd like to incorporate bands into my workouts (especially when I'm away from home) but don't know where to start.

I thought on the band systems, the lack of exact consistent resistance was part of the selling curve with bands. The fact that the resistance was progressive, and got more progressive the more you stretched. It was part of how the band system worked so well to begin with so now, the problem becomes who’s right Having a more progressive resistance as you go out or having a more consistent one like original weight to begin with

Noone is right, try it yourself and take the bands you prefer. It's really not that hard or complicated. But I agree, I wouldn't from this, say that Harambe Bands are better. It's just different.

I’m mostly going off of feeling with bands. What I can simply say is that Harambe are the stiffest/strongest bands I’ve tried.

Interesting elastics physics. I’ve just recently began the deep dive into variable resistance applications with the Clench foot plate/bands product line. (Love it). The veil is lifting after 30 years as a fitness professional, lol.

Another good video. I have bands from multiple manufacturers. Serious Steel, Rogue, Clench, Quantum, X3 regular and Paraforce bands, Lifeline, Bodylastics, and Undersun. I also have the Harambe bands but have never used them. Most of the brands that I own are IMO, pretty close in quality except I like the ones that have the ends sealed so the layers cannot unravel. I definitely think that different length bands are important because everyone is a different size. I have all of Serious Steel's band sizes except for their new 37" ones. I use their 32" bands a lot.

I'm a recent subscriber who has watched many of your videos. Great content! You appear honest and trustworthy. I bought X3 a few weeks before watching your videos. I enjoy X3 but at 5'7" struggle to feel triceps and chest as much as I like. I was planning to get Serious Steel 37" bands but now feel swayed toward Harambe. How should I decide which to get? Keep up the great work and hope in the future to see a video on the research for/against bands.

Thank you for the positive comment / question. SS has more of a stretch which some might prefer, but Harame is a much stiffer give to them. I honestly prefer both for various reasons, so really it comes down to personal preference on this one. I'll also look into that research video, but also at the end of the day, I'd say it comes down to personal preference. I love bands, but I couldn't do them for life as a stand alone form of training.

Excellent video Mike, I have a question can you and have you stacked a X3 paraforce band and a 38 inch Harambe band together for a workout?
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 10 ай бұрын
I’ve never stacked that, but I’m sure you could. I’m actually more recently gravitating towards lighter bands versus heavier, so I can see throwing on some light harambe onto a heavier paraforce band for sure.
@donaldhoward9819
@donaldhoward9819 10 ай бұрын
I own both and I stack them quite often. There isn't any overlap with each bands resistance between Harambe and Paraforce bands, but they both feel way different than any band on the market. Using a heavy Harambe band like the 320lb band with a lighter paraforce band like white feels like weights with bands. It doesn't feel any different until you reach the top of the movement then it feels very heavy. It's like having serious turbo lag. A heavy paraforce band like black with a lighter Harambe band like white or yellow makes it feel like it evens out the force curve and it helps me keep my muscles engaged at the bottom of a movement because paraforce bands are just so light at the bottom like when I do sissy squats.

@hybridresistance

Yes, it should extend the life and help prevent wear on all bands. See my latest video on easy it is to snap bands when enough friction is applied. Great question.

Another plus for these bands is how they're "weighted" right for progressive overload. You can combine their bands to go from 10-20lbs to 800lbs with increments of 10-20lbs. Other bands have odd gaps between their band combinations.
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing that. This would probably be the best system for someone who is super serious about progressive overload with resistance bands.

I think bands need a force curve to be charted. Oh wait, Just checked their site and they do. 800lbs when most of them are all stacked. Wow. Good review, love the feedback and comparisons to other brands. Very helpful and fair

So Harambe bands are layered? But I thought X3 and other bands are also layered. So how are they different?
@donaldhoward9819
@donaldhoward9819 10 ай бұрын
The amount of layers they have and the amount of time the bands are cured. Harambe 38" bands are way harder than Serious Steels 37" bands.
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 10 ай бұрын
Donald answered it, but yes there appears more to overall process than just having layered bands.

I’m wondering whether generic treadmill belt silicone oil is the equivalent of the 3x more expensive “butter”?

Me to myself: Why these bands are not paced like binary digits? 1 unit, 2 units, 4 units, 8 units strong, etc. You can combine them and get any combination of strength. Harambe Systems: Hold my beer.

Hmm... I have the Harambe system, but I don't see how it's physically possible to have constant load on a stretching elastic system. Per Hooke's law, the force on a spring (or elastic system) is given by F=kx, where F is the restoring force, k is the spring (or elastic) constant, and x is the displacement (stretched distance from neutral in this case). Of course, this is for a linear spring and there are many non-linear systems (actually, there are no perfectly linear springs, but many are a close approximation) but I'm not aware of the possibility of constant force. You'd need something where the spring function (not constant, since it varies) is the inverse of displacement. That's always the issue with bands. Dr. Jaquish rationalizes it by saying the force increase just so happens to coincide with the portion of the exercise movement where the muscle is capable of developing the most concentric force. I've always found that to be extremely "hand wavey" as the mathematicians would say. But it's an inevitable down side of bands. That said, I do use and like my Harambe system.

Aren't the bands that are smoother can be stacked. It's a jump on the X3 from the dark grey to the black that's why I stack using a 15lb and 35lb.

@@hybridresistanceMike there is a product called 303 protectant. We use this to increase longevity of latex slingshot bands and protect them from UV light. It works amazing . Wonder if it would work for the exercise bands. They sell it in different bottles marketed for automotive and marine applications. I called the company and they said that was just for marketing. All the same product.

Not the best bands by a long shot in my opinion. No versatility like with 41 inch bands, such as in doing push ups with bands. The bands are just too thick. I sold my set of Harambe bands. I moved on from this brand.

By best I should say in nature on their quality and how they’re manufactured. Like you, I also prefer the 41 inch bands.
