if have just installed the lastest version of woocommerce with standaard theme, but i can't get the VAT info nor the companu name field to show up on the checkout field - issue with the new woocommerce version or i'm i that dumb that i miss something?

You can do that just Go to WooCommerce > Settings > General. Scroll down and select the Enable Taxes and Tax Calculations checkbox. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save changes.
