I don't know if you were trying to channel Ray's vocals but playing that track without the video I'd swear it's a recording by the Kinks themselves. Brilliantly performed. One of the most under appreciated bands in rock history, for me its Beatles, Kinks then Stones. Kinks are the foundation of the true "English sound" for me, many of the best English bands 80's and 90's bands-The Jam, XTC, Pretenders, Blur, Buzzcocks, Oasis, Neutral Milk Hotel, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys the list goes on-owe a debt to the Kinks. Kinks brought English culture to rock putting an electric guitar to dance hall and pub music. Beatles and Stones channeled American music through Motown (Beatles) and every recorded blues artist ever (Stones). Kinks were truly original. As fully British as Springsteen is American. I raise my glass to Ray and your performance.

I mean I'll admit I'm late to the party here. But after a sudden appreciation of the kinks, listening to them, whilst preparing the Christmas veg this is very well received. Great singing too. "Sleighbells aren't just for Christmas" is surely a wasted seasonal t shirt opportunity?

I subscribe to several channels to learn new guitar techniques and yours is always the first one I check daily. It's not that I sit down and learn each lick or trick, but because you choose such great pieces to analyze. I probably won't learn to play this song but it made me revisit the Kinks with much greater appreciation than I ever had when they were on the radio. That happens with most of your song choices; it's like I'm hearing them for the first time again with better ears. Oh, and you have a great voice. Merry Christmas.

Going from Roy Harper to The Kinks is why I love your channel! I actually found Father Christmas more challenging to work on than Forever because I play some classical and the right hand finger work is familiar. Was a kid when it was released and it was virtually ignored completely in the U.S. Ray was reflecting on the punk movement at the time. Always loved it.

Life wasn't easy as a kid. I was 17 when it came out and this felt like the only REAL Christmas song! And it still does. Solos and outro are BRILLIANT.
