ML spinning rod : I can use that for trout fishing (in-line spinner, dropshotting and soaking powerbait), walleye fishing (soft swimbait, ned rig, crankbait, jerkbait), pike (in-line spinner, soft swimbait, topwater), smallmouth bass (dropshot, ned rig, jerkbait, topwater, soft swimbait), shad (shad dart) Not much largemouth bass around where I live. I do have 5 rods total (ML spinning, MH spinning, MH+ spinning, M casting and MH casting, but honestly I could go out with only my ML spinning rod and do just fine)

I’m a big swimbait bait guy In San Diego, I have 5 combos just for swim baits, I think you guys might be a little misleading on the action for bigger swim baits. For soft-baits like the Huddleston ideally you want a extra fast or xx fast. Because most soft-baits have a single jig hook you really want to drive that hook home and you just can’t do that with a slow rod, additionally like mentioned in the video you’ll be fishing deep and with lots of line out (usually) and that just adds to the issue of getting a good hook set. Before I had a dedicated rod I lost lots of fish from improper tackle. With glide baits, crank down or generally treble hook baits you want a slow action to make the gliding motion easier, and there’s more contact and room for error when the fish gets any slack, there’s also 2 general styles of glide which is a whole different can of worms. Slow long swooping action, think deps 250, and a “chopping action” think chadshad or Klash 9 glide mode, which you would want a slow tip with a backbone if that makes any sense at all. Swimbaiting makes you want to buy a dedicated rod for every bait you have lol.

Yeah, we are talking general glides and swims, not hyper specific. The setup we use has been great for the general glides and magdraft style baits we use. In this video we said we would not go hyper specific. I appreciate the info, and will look into it for our future swimbait exploration. Thanks for sharing!

My current favorite fishing rod and reel combo is my jenko double down and slx bfs. Been catching trout and crappies this spring. Once bass open I'm moving over to my phenix feather and curado bfs. I always have these 2 setup on the kayak + the traditional bass rods.😁

My go to is a 6 foot medium Shimano rod paired with a 2500 Shimano reel and 8 lb copolymer line. 90% of the time I have 2 of these with me. I go for simplicity and this works for me unless I'm using lures 5/8 oz or more which I just don't need in the smaller rivers I fish most of the time.

I know you guys recommended quite a few moderate action rods, but I wanted to mention if you are looking to utilize existing rods you already own I feel like I’ve done okay switching to straight mono on a fast action rod to try and compensate on a setup I’ve used for bladed jig/ spinner bait/ buzzbait and cranking. Not ideal and I want to expand but new one rod/reel a season makes for a slow process 😆.

All Spinning all the time. From a 6' ultralight with 6lb braid to a 4lb leader, up to a 11' Medium heavy with 30lb braid and a 40# leader throwing 3oz Salt Water plugs.

I have a 2 piece kastking resolute rod 7’6 medium heavy and I love it. It’s paired with a daiwa zillion and I use this combo for everything. I’ve heard the phenix feather series are light and quality 2 piece rods, but I didn’t pick one up because the one I wanted only comes in an extra fast action. Also, a lot of Jdm rods come with the handle separately which is basically a 2 piece, I’ve heard those rods are also great quality and fishes like a 1 piece rod.

Check some jdm and euro stuff out, the compact form factor is definitely valued more outside of North America. And I know people don’t always have the option but I’ve brought 10+ rods with me in a Chevy cobalt and again in a ford fiesta. Butt of road in passenger floor and tip toward back seat. Also have set butt on dash and tip toward back seat back. Longest rod I own is only a 7’4”.

All my spinning setups are 15 to 20 braid to 8 to 12lb line lol. I have to have a little heavier line in the south with all the vegetation. I can cast 1/16 easy on 15lb braid to 8lb fluoro but i do have two ml rods thats meant for that style fishing. My wacky setup is a medium extra fast with 20lb braid and usually a 12lb leader. I dont mess with the "bih freakin scam" setups 😂. Im a spinning guy for all that stuff. I geberally have 8 to 10 setups when im on my jon boat.

I've never agreed with the super long cranking stick lol. I have a 7'3" and a 7'4" can cast a mile with them especially my main cranking setup with the shimano slx mgl 70. I can also be more accurate when doing targeted cranking. My deep heavy crank setup has a 200 size shimano 7'5" rod extra heavy moderate tfo elite. That thing can handle the 1oz lure in 30' of water with a 10lber on it 😂

I was gifted 2 rods 1 7ft St. Croix Med Heavy Mod Fast Spinning Rod and a 7ft 2" Googan Green Med Heavy Mod Fast Spinning Rod. I have a an Abu Garcia Revo and Penns Fierce 3. Im Not sure what to put on there? Ive been using one for swimbaits and Chatterbaits. The other not sure what to do?
