The Best Games - Fireside Game Jam 2024

This year's gamejam theme was "Expand". Developers from all over the world joined in, creating games from all different genres. The game jam ran for 10 days, giving people lots of time to develop larger games they could be proud of. The jam was hosted on itch, and the results can be seen in this video.

the point of a game jam is that someone makes a game in a short amount of time right? but what stops people from just using old projects they have had for months or even years? i would assume the theme but non of these top 10 games seem related much

It's mostly the honor system, you just have to hope people are being honest. But also, one of the things people are scored on is the relation to the theme, so games that get 0 in that category wouldn't be able to win.

Had a blast playing all of these myself! There were so many good entries that I'm kind of impressed that my game still managed to land in the top five. Wonder if I can do even better next year...

​@@WorstDeveloper In the fireside discord we try to focus mostly on game design topics, and not so much the technology behind those games. Most games will show what engine was used to make them in the game details section on their itch page. So you can check for a lot of the games that way. 👍

@@Uhfgood Oh no, the fireside jam I host every year is open to all engines and tools. I love GDevelop, but game jams are exciting with any engines. 👍
