The glue video doesn't only help people about shoes, it also helps people over other things. I've looking for a kind of strong, flexible glue for repairing sanding belts, and I think the Barge is the kind for it -- apply it, and leave it for 30 minutes before putting two surfaces together. Thanks.

Good video. I agree with you that one of the best glues for soles is Barge contact cement. A good second is Master contact cement. Many cobblers out here in So Cal use these two. A third best is Weldwood contact cement. The problem with Barge and Master is that it's hard to get and it's expensive even for the small 8oz jars (I paid $3 for a 3oz jar of Weldwood at Walmart). I just used Weldwood to do some boot repair on my White's boots soles that were squeaky. I've found that Weldwood works best when you join the pieces together when they are still tacky and not let them dry as much as you would with Barge or Master. I've had good results with Weldwood with no separation.

Hey could you give me some tips? I will be using wellwood to attach a mid sole to a shoe
@swordfish11202 жыл бұрын
@@Waddlejpg Cover both sides to be glued and let sit until tacky to the touch. Carefully line up the two pieces to be bonded because you may only get one shot at it as contact cement bonds quickly and is hard to separate. Once you bond the two pieces together take a hammer and smack the two pieces together (This gets rid of any air pockets). If your gluing soles on boots or shoes take a pair of pliers and work around the sole and midsole squeezing them together. This will ensure the edges are glued. If you have small clamps (like Harbor Freight type) clamp the edges and let it sit over night. That's about it. Good luck.

I’ve used many of those products, so far I’ve stuck with Barge, but when I see video of sneaker companies/factories when crafting Cool Grey XI’s and other Jordan’s, they’re using a glue that’s milkier and easier to smooth out on the midsole with what looks like a toothbrush, I can’t wait to find that Product. You can thin contact cement with either the name brand of thinner that goes with the name brand of glue (do not mix brands) OR use straight up acetone for universal thinner. My issue is how much to buy and thinking about thinner helps longevity and influences how much to buy decisions. But, how much glue does one pair of soles require? Or, how many projects can you do with one quart can?

I’m confused I’ve read that the Burj all purpose cement which I have cannot be used to glue the midsole to the upper etc. it doesn’t work for polyurethane. You’re saying it does. You also didn’t say that you need to reheat the glue or activate it after the 30 minute period do you have to activate it before sticking the things together? What happens if you wait more than 24 hours

Hi, do you repair shoes for people? I have a pair of Jordan 10 red steel that are a 2005 shoe. They are in great condition but the glue that holds the midsoles has become weak and there are places coming apart. It's not the sole itself just parts of the foam midsoles. I bought some angles clear glue and it's on the way. I have fixed shoes myself in the past but I don't have the patience and I want them fixed so I can wear them. There's a good possibility that I will screw them up. Like I said it's not bad, only places. Not sure if the whole midsoles should be removed and reglued or not. But if you do fix shoes how do I send them to you? And how much do you charge. I understand if you don't but I just thought I would ask someone with more experience than myself. Thank you

I called Keen after one of my old pair of Targhee's lost it's sole. They recommended Barge stating it was more flexible when dry then other cements. The sole repair came out great. But how do you keep the can from drying out? I came back a month later and the entire can was lost. $35 for a single shoe repair.

Acetone or Barge brand thinner for Barge cement and store in a cool dry place.
@timdavis60882 жыл бұрын
@@OWK000 I think the biggest problem is the top design doesn't reseal after use. It's the same problem/same design as PVC glue. Am I supposed to keep adding Acetone or thinner on a periodic basis?
@OWK0002 жыл бұрын
@@timdavis6088 hmm. Try putting teflon tape on the thread of the can? The really thick grey kind for gas pipe might be nice. Put the can in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator? The acetone itself tends to evaporate, and you don't want to add more than you have to. Thanks for the heads up about the drying problem its helping me plan my projects and think about evaporation issues. I've got a can of laquer thinner I use for fuel treatment that I am going to try using teflon tape on right now.
@OWK0002 жыл бұрын
Just saw somewhere that Acetone DOES NOT work with Barge cement! One guy is recommending MEK substitute. More than one brand around.
@OWK0002 жыл бұрын
@@timdavis6088 I don't think you can have a quart of Barge w/o thinner even if you use teflon tape on the lid screw and store properly. It also turns out MEK substitute is mostly acetone and acetone doesn't work on Barge cement so I it sounds like the Barge proprietary thinner which is either real MEK or Tolouene w/Heptane is the way to go.
