Absolutely game changing information in this video. Understanding how you spray it AND being okay with any outcome as long as it is within your expected „shotgun pattern“ is a key course management concept you don‘t hear enough about. Awesome vid, Kennie

After learning about DECADE and watching a few videos like this I have gone to google maps and done my own analysis. It really is amazing how this strategic approach can change your confidence behind the ball. Good luck getting back down to 81.

Thanks for sharing the information Kennie. I am not doing a whole lot of competition but do plan on entering a couple of tournaments this year. I average around 90 and it seems like this could help bring me into the mid 80s more consistently and hopefully hit my goals of single figures and breaking 80. Where do you think you saw the biggest improvement implementing the system?
@KennieKatGolf
@KennieKatGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Tee box strategy. I went from averaging 1.6 penalties off the tee box per round to 0.2 per round. Expectation management of approach and recovery shot. The biggest shift was trust and patience. If I stay patient and keep hitting smart approach shots, then eventually my natural shot pattern will give me some birdie looks inside of 15-10ft. Some days I’m going to roll in a few long putts and shoot 77... other days I’m going to 2 putt everything and shoot 84.

Very excellent. You are the same sort of player as I am - trying to utilise data to the maximum to play better statistically. For example: my driving range uses InRange (which is a much, much more accurate version of toptracer) and I built a yardage table using the following methodology: 5 sets of 20 "good" shots with each club - I did the 5 sets over the course of different days to cater for different conditions and to observe whether the shots might inadvertently be affected by a factor I didn't account for. Once I had a data range of 100 shots with each club I put it into an excel spreadsheet where various statistical measures were applied to the data - mean/mode/median/range etc. From there I formulated the "magic number" for each club which was the average of the sum of the mode+median+mean. I then applied 1/2/3 standard deviations to the data for carry, total, roll, ball speed, launch angle, and apex along with the _actual_ percentage probability of landing within the the various standard deviations. I then printed this out onto a single A5 piece of paper and laminated it, it now hangs on a carabiner on my bag for easy reference. I know with complete confidence how far my clubs will go in terms of landing area. Next I'm working on dispersion to see where they land if not on target.

Oh, as for pin hunting from 100y out - last round I was 70y from the pin on a par 5. Water in front of me all the way up to the green, the pin tucked short right between the water and a bunker. Landing area must have been 6 or 7 yards - what does Diogenes do? Aim straight for the pin - duh. Anyway, from a ridiculously easy par opportunity on the hardest hole on the course, your boy puts it into the bunker, takes 3 shots to get it out and 2 putts for a double. Pardon my French but I was fucking furious at such a greedy error.

Knowing how far your clubs go, “exactly”, is such a common sense idea but most people don’t follow it. Everyone who is near a pga superstore or a place that rents a launch monitor should invest the money to find out how far all of their clubs go. Now having the discipline to stick to those yardages? That’s a different story 🤷🏿‍♂️ Thanks for sharing 🙏🏿

Great video, never heard of the Decade system. Will check it out. We all certainly should know the strategies behind scoring lower. Golf is much more mental than just standing there and hitting a ball. It’s the only sport I know where the environment changes daily, which makes it so difficult. Course management is a key component right behind learning to strike the ball well. Knowing your shot dispersions for each club is vital. Keep improving.

You should check out some of their work. They work with lots of PGA/LPGA players that have come fresh out of college and these players are scoring like veterans because of their understanding of these mathematical ideas.

Kennie, excellent video! When you got started with Decade, how much time and effort did the stat tracking and so forth take? Is that something you need to do while playing or after each round? Thanks!

It can feel like a lot when you start, but overtime you train your brain to remember basically an entire round and I can do my stats in about 10 minutes after a round.

Firstly I truly believe in the decade system from what I have read, even though I don’t have it. When I watch all these American KZbinrs I see that their courses have no shrubs or bushes in between holes and in their rough areas just mostly single trees that are much more easily navigated. On Australian courses it’s usually a lost ball if you enter those spots.

It’s all just math. Good course design will always leave reasonable areas to hit tee shots, approach shots and layups. The math stays the same even if the agriculture changes.

Great review. I’m interested in the system but my home course recently added 4 holes and deleted 4 holes so there isn’t an updated satellite map. Does the system rely on maps to work? Should I save my cash until google maps gets around to updating some day?

The vast majority of the value in Decade is in the education of proper target selection. The yardage books and GPS driving targets are just a value added service.

I just purchased this this morning. A lot to learn. But my first question is. What’s the best way to find your shot pattern? And do you need to know your shot pattern for every club in your bag?
@KennieKatGolf
@KennieKatGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to know your shot pattern with every club, but usually most clubs that are similar (I.e wedges/short irons, long irons/hybrids) should have a similar pattern. The best way is renting a launch monitor or going to a PGA superstore and using their bay. Another way is to use Google earth to map out two points on your range that are 60 yards apart, setup your camera behind you, use alignment sticks for your setup and to see where your ball starts, hit shots and eyeball where the balls land. Take notes with each club.

What do you have to do to get started? I still don't know if I understand the deliverable of the Decade product. It just seems like a course management and statistical tool. Am I wrong in that ?

The basic version are dozens of video lessons and basic stat tracking, if you’re a 70’s shooter, their is a more advanced version for stats tracking and course management.

How do you get a pattern where you don't know exactly how far your drives are going on the range nor can you see exactly where they end up on the range
@KennieKatGolf
@KennieKatGolf 2 жыл бұрын
The easiest way would be going to a PGA superstore or anyone that has a launch monitor you could rent for 30 minutes. The other way would be finding a hole with a large fairway late in the evening, hitting 10-20 drives on the tee box with an alignment stick. Going up to where your balls land and pacing out the farthest left and farthest right.

Hey Kennie, during your video at this point kzbin.info/www/bejne/h33NZKuwdq1nbs0 How do you overlay your dispersion pattern on to google maps. Like what program are you using to draw that dispersion circle onto the course so it is accurate to your dispersion yardages.

Being a poor ball striker doesn’t mean you shouldn’t: 1.) understand where your aiming and have logic behind why you’re aiming there 2.) have a desired end goal I’ve never shot a shotgun, that doesn’t mean if I go out shooting I’m not going to try and aim at the proper targets.
