Good video. Thanks for the take on the helms. Buhurt Tech is just about to start on my Bascinet "Griffon" helm, and with it being so far away (across the ocean) and how much of a commitment it was. I have to admit. I'm a bit nervous. Have fought in both a Nasal and Wolf rib, so I guess only time will tell.

I know plenty of people fighting in Griffon style helms as well and they like them. I personally think it's one of the best looking helms out there

It is the most effective and sport optimized helmet. If your goal is to be the best you use the best tools you can get.

Great video! I have a wolf rib, which I love, but would like to try a Griffon for that extra eye protection. And they look cool as hell.

I was considering a Sugarloaf helm for my first helmet but this other fighter has told me I should go with a ROA Bascinet instead. Mind you I have not even rumbled in the steel yet but I think it would be cheaper to get my own equipment instead of using the loaner armor at the Academy

ROA's are much more common and I think a good compromise of that "look" vs sport if you want that. I would always suggest fighting in loaner equipment for sparring at least a couple of time before investing in your own kit. Just to make sure you really want to do this. It's not the most expensive hobby but it is not cheap.

My sugarloaf is just getting the finishing touches on it. I was looking for a wolf rib but my options were limited... apparently size giant is not too common.

Have you ever seen helmet horror with a wolfrib?

Helmet horrors is a strange thing. I think some people just get it from putting on any helmet, kind of like some people feel claustrophobic in a small room and others don't. However the more restrictive the helmet the more likely that helmet horror feeling. I haven't seen anyone 'panic' in a wolfrib but new people still have to get over that feeling of having a heavy steel helmet on your head the first time

It smells well worn. I try and keep it clean but there is only so much you can do to wash the inside of a helm

It depends on what you prioritize, looks or efficiency. There is no right answer just what you care about more.

No offense but, if you are not gonna use something that looks historical, you might as well play a current sport like MMA or American footbal (those wear armor too, but modern)

@@pabloalonsolasagabaster658 why? Mma is a different sport without weapons or armor. And football has no comparison to a combat sport. It is a totally different game. I as well as most buhurt athletes will continue to wear sport optimized armor because this is a sport. Also wolf ribs are historical helmets just not as pretty as some other styles

It's just that... the wolfrib is the worst LOOKING helmet. This is medieval armored combat. Not ice hockey!
