The BEST Hitchcock Set? | Hitchcock: The Beginning Unboxing

I caught a few of his silents at a cinema in Berlin during the "Hitchcock 9" campaign. They were great experiences, with a packed house, a big screen and a live pianist. It's a pity that not all those "9" are on this set (especially the high-profile one, "The Lodger"), but those would have made the box too chunky, I guess. But it is neat that they bothered to put the German version of "Murder" on it because it's really hard to get hold of. BTW, Anny Ondra, many years ago (around 2008) when I started working in my healthcare job, there was this lady who was about 105 years and still totally lucid, and during conversation it came out that she was an avid cinema goer during the silent era. Naturally I squeezed some titles out of her that she loved the most in the hope that I could hunt them down and watch them. She was a big fan of Anny Ondra's comedies - but after my research, I found out that pretty much all of them are lost. We're truly lucky that, save for one film, Hitchcock's early work still exists.

Highly recommend his silent 'The Ring'. The youthful energy and poetry of the metaphor of the original bangle-ring/eventual boxing competition at the Royal Albert Hall ring, puts new filmmakers to shame.

Great video👌 It's a shame that the remaining 4 films of the "Hitchcock 9" are not included. Then the box would have shown all of the early works. That would have been the chance.

It is a great shame, but I'm glad we got Juno and the Paycock added to the bunch this time! I guess it's all to do with who holds the various rights etc
