@@LifeintheMundane I had a kid who left out vowels out of words for years... like, just no vowels anywhere. lol AAS transformed her spelling! Some kids are intuitive with these things and don't need curriculum, but some just really need to learn a rules-based approach. And AAS is actually really helping my struggling reader, too.

I have a variety of needs in our homeschool and I look for curriculum that suits each kids!!! We’ve used a lot of phonics curriculums!!! We love AAR!!! My older kids use the fluency sheets more than My youngest!!! My older kids issues are they learn phonics and then come to words that are stumping them do we have to go over these phonics principles!!! My oldest tried IEW and it didn’t work for him!!! We are yet to use horizons math but I would use it if we needed to switch curriculum!!! We love masterbooks science and TGTB science units and easy peasy for science!!! We love science books so hearing of other options is awesome!!! My kindergartener doesn’t do science but we use books for her!!! My older kids are doing sonlight history!!!

When we started homeschooling I was like I just want to use one curriculum. Haha I soon realized that wasn’t going to work. I learned about Dianne Craft from you and have implemented the exercises for my dyslexic child. I’ve never heard of grammar galaxy. Going to check that out. My oldest daughter does fix it grammar. Do you feel S &S is a good fit for reluctant writers or is it pretty intense? She really really dislikes writing.
@LifeintheMundane
@LifeintheMundane Жыл бұрын
So for my oldest who is very dyslexic I have just held off on formal writing bc I’m picking my battles lol. He will start S&S next fall (Lord willing) but I plan to do sit down and do it with him and take it slow if necessary. I also plan to use adaptive technology like voice to text with him as well. Now that being said my other two older ones are going S&S they both have dyslexia as well but not nearly as severe. They were both reluctant writes and yet it’s been great for them. I personally don’t start formal writing until 5th or 6th grade (I’m weird like that). Now ALL of that being said just know that if you buy S&S or any product directly from IEW they have a 100% money back guarantee that never expires so if you try it and you don’t like it you can get your money back no questions asked.
@homeschoollifemom
@homeschoollifemom Жыл бұрын
@@LifeintheMundane thank you! Very helpful. My child who doesn’t like writing isn’t the one who has dyslexia but I think I’ll hold off for another year for the formal writing. I’m with you and don’t think it needs to be pushed too early.

@@homeschoollifemom That sounds like a great plan. My mom homeschooled 7 kids and one of the big things she wishes she would have done with all of us was wait to start writing till 5th or 6th and when mama says something I listen 😂

How much did you spend on all of your resources?
@LifeintheMundane
@LifeintheMundane 11 ай бұрын
I don't have an exact number for you as these have been purchased over many years. It just depends on the curriculum. Some I bought used, some were given to me, some are from sales, and I like to use rewards programs when they are offered. The key for me is to purchase the curriculum all throughout the year and not all at once. I hope this helps.
