If Russ or LaRussell stopped making music which brand would continue to grow and function? True community exists when members build relationships independent of the person who brought them together. Chairs facing each other, not just focused on the stage! Imo Russ laid the groundwork and LaRussell ran with it. Both greats in their own right. Thank y'all for starting this discourse!

They are great communicators which is the first key.... many of us lack the wherewithal to be patient enough and egoless enough to RESPECT the perspectives of others.... also I think it helps to communicate with people who are truly knowledgeable about the subject which allows everybody to truly learn something and benefit. I hate having a conversation with someone who wants to challenge you but have not thoroughly researched or gained knowledge about the actual topic.

7:45 Both strategies are the best for indies! Russ started his journey in the early 2010s (pre-streaming), releasing a weekly song with an anti-label message. On the other hand, LaRussell emerged in the late 2010s, focusing on releasing an album each month, conveying a positive Good Compenny message. Russ's approach laid the foundation for LaRussell, and they mutually supported each other. While both artists have their own fan bases, it's worth noting that Russ's early days lacked the content creation aspect seen in LaRussell's approach due to how social media changed. Personally, I believe all artists should explore content creation, akin to KZbinrs. An artist with a community has fans that stream the music, buy merch, and attend shows. Both models are effective, and for me, it's about embracing both.

It’s not even close LaRussel has definitely built community in a way like we have never seen.. From Shows at his house, celebrating and featuring content about his team and his infrastructure, bringing in new artists and featuring them, having the clothing line, restaurant (providing free meals) and proposed pay/ song split concepts… it’s like a more tangible and interactive version of where Nipsy was headed. And I don’t even care that much for LaRussel’s music! He got bars but his track selection is weak to me. His community though is tangible and curated based on his perspective it really seems like he Good Company 🤷🏽‍♂️

I understood what you meant by community... but i dont understand why so many people look over what wiz khalifa has done? His Vlogs "DayToday" is kind of like a blueprint i think woukd help alot of us.

Russ will forever have a bigger impact on the industry, LaRussel is extremely smart but doesn’t have the SuperStar persona Russ gives off. Russ came out swinging at any & everybody (which makes you pick a side), I don’t see that with LaRussell (yet). Everyone seems to be “okay” with LaRussell, you either love or hate Russ; Showing Russ has a high quality solid foundation, LaRussell looks great until the storm hits. Corey also seems more educated on most subjects, Sean seems more business savvy. Great content fellas.

Really interesting take. They are both amazing in their own right. But I do think we as fans look for things outside of whats actually going on. They are in the "Music Industry". All I have to say when having this conversation is who's music is better. Every single come up is different. Russ and LaRussel are set for life. So then the conversation should turn to who has the better music. This oh he marketed he and he built this here is phenomenal. Both are pioneers. But focus on the music and quality vs everything else. If you wanna compare the two. Love yall content. Love these conversations.

I'm biased because I worked with LaRussell lol but yeah, outside looking in, LaRussell's brand is waaaaay more community driven than Russ's and its not even close.

I think Russ did built a community, but it wasn’t as structured as LaRussels, bc Larussel’s brand is more clear and well marketed than Russ. Russ community didn’t have that many clear and impactful rules

Tom McDonald puts them all to shame . Him and his lady straight up make their own music videos, produces his own tracks, and sells and ships his own records. He does every single thing and does not sub out any of his work. Like or hate the dudes music he out works all these dudes . Every single thing is in house.
