iPad Air 5th gen is currently the best price to power bang for buck in the lineup. I constantly see iPad Air 5s for $450-$500 which is the same ballpark as the mini. And it comes with a M1 chip, still portable, the perfect size iPad, and has external monitor support and will get AAA game support moving forward after Assassins creed and Resident evil 4 come to the ipad

As someone who still does not plan to upgrade from my iPad 9th generation, I just enjoy watching these video to keep an eye on the progress of the iPad line up. I just love using a tablet as an in between device between my phone and tablet and when the times does come to switch, it would be nice to know all I need to know over the years. But for now at least, I watch these guides purely for entertainment and general interest in Apple’s tech.

I just got the iPad 10th gen with cellular, it was on sale for 1/2 off and a free year of 5G cellular service, so I decided to upgrade from my 1st gen iPad Pro, I’m absolutely love the 10th gen, the cameras are so much better than my old iPad Pro, it’s super fast compared to what I’m used too, and the screen is super bright for me, I also love the metallic blue color as well, it just pops, I just do mainly watching videos and playing games, and look on the internet and some photography and fly my drone with it and it has done everything with no problems at all

Yesterday, I finally bit the bullet on an iPad mini. I need a stop-gap until a significantly greater version comes out - ProMotion namely - the capacity doesn’t bother me, as I’m all in on the cloud. The iPad Air really was tempting, but the idea that it may replace the iPad Pro 11” sometime soon (and have ProMotion + M2) did make me think I’d regret it sooner than later… As I was desperate for something portable, as I travel a lot more now, there’s things that the iPhone 14 Pro Max just can’t do as well as a larger-but-still-mini screen, can. 😉 The moment a Pro or ProMotion mini launches, I’ll sell my left lung and the iPad mini to cover the upgrade.

The concept of the iPad mini is really intriguing to me. But I’m writing this on my 12.9” iPad Pro from 2018 that I bought instead of Mac book because, well, I don’t like laptops. Over the years this iPad has gotten too big for what I ultimately use it for…the exact things that would be perfect on a mini. KZbin, mail, doom scrolling, etc. I don’t use my iPad Pro as a laptop replacement except in very rare cases. Oh well, let’s see if Apple upgrades the mini.

After waffling on the decision for months, the mini 6 prices dropped and I finally made the decision to buy. I used my older mini for both work and personal. I plan to do the same with the mini 6. I don't think an incremental improvement in the mini next year will make me wish I had waited. There will always be a new design or new features that come out and I know that when I buy.

The biggest problem with the Air is, if you ignore the utterly pointless 64gb model, it’s ridiculously expensive for the spec. £850 for a 60hz screen is crazy! If they bumped the entry spec to 128gb and kept the price the same, then I could see it working. But once you upgrade to the 256gb, I’d say go for the entry 11 inch Pro and get the better screen and speakers plus it’s the newer M2 chip. For me 128gb is fine for internal storage (just) so those extra features over the Air are well worth the £50. But hey, it’s all personal preference :-)

Happy iPad 10 user here. Why did I get it? Easy, it's the cheapest most recent iPad out there. I got myself the absolute base model, wifi-only with 64 gb of storage. Since I only use it to stream content, some browsing and light app use (like Reminders, Notes and stuff like that), it's perfect. It also has a usb c port, which is a plus looking towards the future of all Apple devices.I did consider the M1 Air, and though it isn't that much more expensive, why pay extra for features I am sure I will never use or need. The only downside of the 10 is still being stuck with the first gen Apple Pencil.

I got myself the 11-inch iPad Pro and I do think that it is worth it. The drawing experience on the Pro is much better than on the Air. Thunderbolt is available on the Pro. A better chip, really good speakers.

There’s really not such a thing as the “best” iPad, they’re all good for their own situations - but as time goes on, the more expensive ones feel like they have less and less purpose. The only things an iPad will do better than what a laptop or a phone will do, in my opinion, are media consumption (excellent to pop behind your dinner plate without dealing with a keyboard), drawing, handwritten notes, and being a little more compact/easy to use out and about than a laptop. Unfortunately, this comes at the cost of not being optimized for a desktop experience (connect a keyboard and trackpad and they’re supported well by Apple apps, but support from anyone else is usually subpar at best), and not having the ability to sideload or run any games and apps not through the App Store, making it a much more limited OS than Mac or Windows. Essentially it’s just the iPhone OS on a bigger screen with a handful of extra features, and not something most people will have a real need for. If you’re ONLY gonna be doing fairly basic things on your iPad, go for it instead of a laptop, you’ll be fine. Or if you want a big media device that’s easier to move around and use than a laptop that can double as a second monitor for your laptop, go for it. Or, specifically for the Mini, if you’re on a budget and want the biggest-screen phone you can get for the cheapest price, you can totally use an iPad Mini as an all-in-one - I did in high school, and it had some caveats compared to owning a phone and tablet and laptop but it worked. Right now, I’ve got a 2022 iPad Air to compliment my Windows laptop. I use it daily to watch KZbin at meals. Anything I can do on it that I used to do on my laptop is a whole lot faster because of the convenient form factor and M1 chip, even if it can’t replace my laptop entirely. I draw as a hobby and I need an iPad for the way I find most comfortable. My iPad also provides a link to the Apple ecosystem that my family uses, while also playing nicely with Windows devices (preferred desktop OS) and Android phones (looking to switch soon, Apple’s very “my way or the highway” and I’m choosing the highway). Altogether an iPad makes sense for me, the $900 for it and accessories was well spent. But its purpose seems too…scattered? To have a need for an iPad that’s not covered by the other devices you own, you’d need to be in a pretty specific situation. Love how comfortable iPads are to use, literally cannot beat the iPad Mini in comfort, but “it’s comfortable” by itself can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars.

I hope this helps somebody deciding between an iPad 10 and an M1 Air 5 I don’t know how to describe this but do NOT buy the iPad 10 as an easy way out as it’s less expensive and have it as your substitute for what you originally wanted, the Air 5. I feel like a lot of people will be very satisfied with the 10. I’ve owned one for 6 months in the 64GB Yellow version. But if you use the apple pencil and keyboard a lot I really wouldn’t bother… I use the Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil with it and I hate the kickstand of the keyboard as I can never get an adequate angle with it and if you wanna work from the comfort or your bed it is extremely cumbersome and unstable in my own experience, and the lack of ability to store the pencil is a game changer for me when i’m spending £499 on the tablet alone. I’ve also found my battery life personally to be poorer than my 3 year old iPad 8th Gen. Also with the keyboard case, not having the ability to use proper external display support and stage manager is also a major con for me. My pros are the amazing palette of colours, the performance of the A15 and 4GB of RAM and the landscape camera… that landscape is A BLESSING for facetime and i’ll be so sad to let it go. You’ll KNOW if you want or need the Air 5. And i’ve now realised that down the line and am choosing to sell up and buy the Air 5. Please be careful with your money and do an extra bit of saving if you are going to need it.

As someone who's planning on updating my iPad in 2024, I think I *get* the 11-inch iPad Pro. The iPad Air comes in 64GB and 256GB. 64GB is too small for me, but the 256GB is $150 more and is more storage than I need. Perhaps more importantly, the price of the 256GB iPad Air brings it within $50 of the 11-inch iPad Pro which has 128GB of storage, which is the amount that I want. So then it becomes a question of whether the Pro has enough unique features over the Air to justify that $50 upsell, or whether I'd rather save that $50 and get an Air with twice as much storage than I need (an 128GB Air for just $50 more would be perfect). I know this is all falling victim to Apple's price ladder that entices you to upgrade to the more expensive, more profitable model, but that's just where we are.

Good video - thanks. And it was good to see some countryside! For me, the big problem with the iPad Air is the storage. The base version is reasonably priced at £669, but it only has 64gb of storage, and as soon as you increase that to 256gb (the only storage upgrade available) you're up to £849. That's within £50 of the 11" iPad Pro, but without ProMotion, FaceID, and with a slower port, slower wifi, and poorer speakers and cameras. I think there's enough value in those extras to be worth £50, and the storage on the base iPad Pro is 128gb. So for me the big question regarding the iPad Air is: is 64gb enough storage? There's also the refurbished option, of course. For quite a while now Apple have been selling 'certified refurbished' 3rd gen 11" iPad Pros, with the M1 chip and 128gb storage, for £639. That looks like a good buy - there's really not a lot of difference, other than the processor and the price, between that and the current version.

I have to admit I don’t understand the geek-talk so can you help me decide if and when to purchase a new iPad? I use my iPad constantly (but the camera only for FaceTime) for photo storage (4,000 jpegs which are saved to the Cloud. I’d like to do LightRoom and Photoshop Editing - is this possible on an iPad? Great review. I would gladly wait until March but my battery on my iPad Air 3rd generation has finally tanked. So I have to buy now or constantly charge it. No thanks. It’s lasted me well over 4 years. I’m leaning toward the iPad Air 5th generation but after reading some of these comments I’m wondering if I should go with the pro. Like with the looming iPad updates. I’m waiting for the M3 macs to release I’ve waited this long so there is no point me buying an m2 studio, mini or mini pro now as the M3 versions will all likely hwbe been released within the next six months. That being said I’m skeptical we’re going to see the performance and efficiency gains these new 3nm m3 chips are rumoured to have!. Seeing as the new iPhone chips are effectively the same chip. They have seen absolutely no gains in efficiency the battery life is unchanged and there has only been a 9% performance increase!. Now the iPhones are super fast as it is so only a 9% performance increase is a mute point!. Hopefully it’s apple has deliberately cut the performance of the iPhone version of the chip. But if they haven’t it’s very very possible these new M3 chips could be a massive let down. Sure they’ll be better so I still may as well wait but I now seriously doubt the performance and efficiency will be significantly better than M2, more marginal gains unfortunately!.

I remember spending a ton of money on an iPad that had the first Retina display. 2 months later they came out with a new iPad that had a much faster everything, much thinner and a lightning connector. I was absolutely PISSED! That was what soured me on Apple. Every year they say the same thing over and over. I get it. Technology changes but does new processor technology only come available in a couple of months? Why not put the best of everything into it enough to keep Apple products amazing for a year and a half? I could understand that.

The best iPad? ofcourse the iPad 9 for the basics and still has a zippy chip with 2-3 years support from Apple and the deal breaker - 3.5mm jack. Best value Apple tech yeah mate!
