I almost choked when I finally realised what this song is about. (Was eating chips) basically, this song fits the entire series. Not to ruin it for anyone, but this song is about what war does to people. "Do you remember the time..." sounds like they lost a lot of emotion after returning from war "now only the music of the night" PTSD. Having nightmares of the cannon fire and friends dying. "Feeling used and lost, why the fighting and crying of tears" basically, they can't find meaning in life anymore after the traumatic experience, and why did they have to fight? What is the point of war? Essentially, just imagine that the person they are referring to was a warrior, and he came back different than he was before. The person was cold, unfeeling, and hated themselves. They felt they couldn't love, laugh, or enjoy life after what they went through. Very sad. That was my interpretation of it, anyways.

it's just incredible how this single song can give me such an emotional meltdown. thinking about this game, what it means to me, love, friendship, life. within seconds i am starting to feel tears running down my face, reminding me even more of how this game changed my life and how thankful i am for that. it's just a song written in a language that i never heard before, but i fell in love with it the moment those credits started to roll. and it's perfect. there is just nothing i would ever change of this song. sometimes i wish i could play metal gear solid again, because it is my absolute favourite game of all time. but then i am afraid that it won't be the same. and i know it will never be the same as back when i was a kid, sitting on the floor in front of the tv. completely blown away by this story and all the messages it delivered. --- you mustn't allow yourself to be chained to fate to be ruled by your gens. humans can choose the type of life they want to live. the important thing is that you choose life and then...live! ---

Over 25 years ago, I somehow got a red demo disc. I put it in my Playstation, and there were several game demos, and a few trailers. One was for Metal Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action. It was the one with the song "The best is yet to come." Even now, that song brings chills. I don't have words for that trailer. The graphics, direction, sound design, the emotion...and that haunting, bitter, sweet song. Later, I got my hands on the actual game, and it was a very special experience for a me as a young boy. It wasn't just a game, it was an experience. It taught me about love, war, revenge, beauty, the human condition, and so much more. That experience shaped me. I have since gone on many adventures, even to China, followed many dreams and done more than I could have ever imagined, and that game had a big part to play in it. Now, I'm making a game with unreal engine 5, it's been more than a few years, and you can bet there will be stealth, love, hate, despair and overcoming all odds for peace. I hope to finish it for when my son hits high school. He's only a few years old now, so I've got time. Just wanted to share my experience with you all. Thank you and all the best. Never give up.

A common misconception about this song is that most think it's about being with someone you love or losing them. If you pay close attention to the lyrics it's about what war does to the people involved (soldiers, civilians, families, etc.) which is why it's in a game centered around war.
@gustavocolombo684111 жыл бұрын
applies in another million circumstances, and the beauty of the game is because it is not just about war, for me MGS always has been the question, why we keep on killing each other with no reason?

+100, that is pretty much what my friend said when he had translated the song for me a couple of years ago. He speaks Gaelic, his grandparents wanted to make sure he did and all. He was pretty surprised to hear such a song like this in a video game. Meant a lot to him since he was in the military, which actually helped gain him his citizenship, I have a lot of respect for him and all... And I hope he never sees this, or I'll never hear the end of it haha.
It kind of is, but there's nowhere in the song where it portrays that they are helping the person. They seem to be noting how becoming a soldier and (most likely) seeing combat has completely changed who they were.

Something I don't see people mention about another poetic reason for this song choice, it's sung entirely in my countrys language of Gaeilge, a language that was stripped from our people due to occupation and rule from a tyrannical country. The language is close to dead with a very small amount of people in Ireland still being fluent in it, myself being one (though incredibly rusty since I haven't used it since school) The language was taken by force and in a sense was a casualty of war! Sounds like a theme straight out of the game! Love this choice and blows me away that one of the most popular games of all time has a song in it entirely in our language ❤️

When this game came out it was one of the few to really make you feel connected to the characters through artfully applied music like this and it's cinematic presentation. The story was complicated enough that it warranted several play throughs on new game + to take it all in.

I remember playing the MGS1 demo on a PS demo disc, that had a lot of other demos on it. Good times... Then I finally bought the actual game and it's impacted my life unlike anything else.

This deserves to be on the top comments more than anything. I've lost a friend that loved this game as well, the same person who got me into Metal Gear Solid to begin with. I feel your pain.
It's insane I was 10 years old and not understanding any of this after beating this game and now I do at age 32 looking up the ending theme.....Kojima is a master

I know exactly what all of you mean about the childhood memories. I remember playing the demo when I was probably 6 years old. Even crying from parts of the game with Meryl etc when I was just a child. Definitely a game that can change people's outlook on life. Such good memories.. Even the ones making my fingers bleed from the torture scene lol. I downloaded it a few days ago from the PS3 store and I'm still amazed that a game could be so ahead of its time.

No the reason it plays because it is a fitting end price for the game. It gives a hopeful message and the song can mean whatever you want to mean.

Phew. For a born English speaker, I thought Irish would be an easy language to reproduce phonetically. But, it's proving harder than I first imagined. Still, I will learn this song by heart, even if it means taking a couple years of learning the entire Irish language to do it.

This song's name is so fitting. Not only was the best yet to come for Metal Gear Solid's Lore, with Liquid getting the crap beat out of him in MGS4, but also the games themselves. Look at MGS1, Blocky, polygonal, and amazing. Now MGSV, see, the best was yet to come.
