R.I.P. Burt Bacharach (May 12, 1928 - February 8, 2023) This is my favorite rendition of his "Wives and Lovers" featuring David Sanborn and George Duke.

Great rendition! Just brilliant. You don’t get to hear an electric piano playing with an orchestra everyday 😅

Thanks for your kind notes. There is such an expression of feeling in the Song. I believe Music brings out the deep foundational emotions in us. There will never be enough of it’s healing powers. It was a gift from our creators to be able to serve as its Channeler’s and Custodians. Peace. I hope those involved know the amount of goodness they brought to the World.

Fantastic! It brings me to tears to lose him. I particularly love this tune as well. Jack Jones sings this so well, I love the lyrics. Also there's a great Grant Green version on his album Matador where he teams with the Coltrane rhythm section of the day...the one we know and love. Thank you.

I have learned so very much watching and listening to your wisdom and many experiences as devotion and sincerity are expressed so eloquently with scholarly detail. The performance you’ve selected illustrates on an almost unobtainable level description as only true masterpieces reveal. Your intuitive mental ability to honor Art, in this Case Jazz provides us guidance enriching our individual experience. Late after Meeting or intimate performance I’d attended at the Miyako Hotel in SF. a presentation of performance of his recent release I walked downstairs into a small Bistro and Sushi Bar and ordered a late Dinner. I was the only Patron left. I sat in a booth and waited for my meal. George Duke as if we were best friends approached me asking if could join me. I was thrilled to spend the next 3 hours infatuated with his recollections and experiences especially concerning SF and Zappa. As we were leaving he insisted on paying and we exchanged numbers and rode the elevator to our respective floors. His warmth and kindness were evident in his performance you’ve presented. Thank you in your appreciated contributions to this communication. Please continue I will watch each one. Cheers and Peace be with you. M

The Zappa years - that was like a different world. I saw an interview once where George Duke said that you got so into that sound that it took months to sort of deprogram and get back to “normal”. Unlike what many think where it was some kind of wacky drug trip, playing for Zappa was difficult and playing straight was the only way to do it well. A tough boss, but very humorous also. George always looked like he was enjoying himself!

Wow! He moved on. One of the sound tracks of my day to day existence in the day. I played Alfie for strippers 6 nights a week. I covered most of his material at one time or another. I would like to record his music. It is so challenging but rewarding! He really broke away from the Brill Building. Than you Brett!!!!!

3:12 is a bugle call played on an alto saxophone, and then 3:21 is a lover's twilight whisper into his girl's ear. An era is closing, is closing fast, but the Jazz Video Guy stands his ground. We'll be playing McCoy Tyner's Bacharach album tomorrow, and some George Duke I found today while looking for a Chick Corea disc. Beautiful _Wives and Lovers,_ beautiful artists.

The wild thing about the old degrees of separation game is following George Duke and then going to Frank Zappa. Some great albums there! Then consider Pete Christlieb who played sax so many years with Doc on the Carson Show. Pete’s father played bassoon and yes, he played with Zappa too. Or go from George Duke to his cousin Dianne Reeves. But we remember today Burt Bacharach the great musician and composer. Who was married to Angie Dickinson, who used to flirt hard with Johnny Carson.

Thank you, Bruce! Very much appreciated, we used to play _six degrees of separation_ with seriousness and joy, and quite strict rules. Required quite a great deal of perspicacity sometimes. Will follow your Duke-Zappa line, already quite curious! And Angie had the most beautiful pair of legs.

That is a great clip - thanks for coming back to post it. Although I was familiar with just about all of his music, I knew very little about the details of his career. I just went back and read his wiki entry, which is amazing, especially his early career, his training, and how he came up. I did not know of his history with Vic Damone, Marlena Dietrich, that he studied with Darius Milhaud, that he wrote hits for The Drifters, Gene McDaniels, Chuck Jackson, Marty Robbins, etc, etc. Also didn't know he wrote Magic Moments for Perry Como, which is part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Anyhow, Bret, thanks for this great tribute ... and I'm trying to get better about liking and commenting. It's too easy just to enjoy the content without contributing! I'm gonna stay subscribed ... all the best to you.

Nice rendition. Miss George Duke. Big loss to the music industry, not just jazz. IDK...I still love Wes Montgomery's version of this song most of all. I will probably enjoy most versions anyway, because I really dig this song. Thanks to Burt for that. (RIP)
