You do not need my affirmation ... I love the look of both fenders steel and plastic, and your motivation to go with plastic makes a lot of sense. I chose plastic for the same reason. The vehicle code here In Utah prevents us from running small fenders. We are required to have 50% of the height and 100% of the width covered here. You won't get stopped for not having mud flaps or fenders that cover the entire width of the tires, but if you get stopped for anything else you are almost guaranteed two additional citations.

Yea…just depends on local laws. I’ll be in Utah this week. But with Texas plates. So hopefully it’s a non issue. I guess I’ll find out.

I have those same Smittybilt fenders you were running. They work great for me, I like that they won't fade like plastic.

Yea. Mine weren’t smittybilt. But similar. The plastic apparently doesn’t really fade from MCE. Something about their composite…

what brand were your steel fenders?

Those look so much better than what' I'm assuming were the Smitty's that you had on there. They kind of cheapened the look of an otherwise strong build.

Thanks for the support! I like these. The older ones I believe were just an Amazon special. I didn’t buy them. They were in it when I bought it. But I agree.

I’m pissed I paid 550 plus tax. They were 800 along time ago, dropped to 400. Got popular and then they raised to 550 where most the competition is. Oh well, happy to support the company. I didn’t realize they had dropped to 400, they only got popular kinda recent. 550 isn’t too crazy, about the price of bushwhacks and cheaper metal fenders

Crazy right! These days everything is so expensive because of inflation, insurance, shipping. Imagine the cost of renting space, paying the electric bills, paying employees, taxes, insurance, shipping, and then managing to make money for yourself selling fenders. Kind of crazy. But it is what it is.

@@WarPaintOffroad yeah i dont blame the company at all, just wish i saved 150 haha, i live in minnesota so i need full width fenders, would have got kbd otherwise. One it is a law, 2 basting your vehicle with salt/chemicals all winter long probably isnt good.

Love the MCE fenders Dan! I modded some stock fenders like your original ones. You are spot on with your thoughts about plastic fenders, something has to give, I want it to be my fenders, not the body! 👏👏👏

Heck yea! Tbh, I probably would have done the same thing first! But my jeep was bought used and didn’t have the original fenders any more.

I planned on doing MCE or KBD fender flares myself one day. The poison spyder and evo fender flares that I originally wanted are stupid expensive and I’m not willing to spend $2k for something that’s purely aesthetic.
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Жыл бұрын
Oh I agree completely. They are crazy expensive and offroad can more easily cause body damage than something like this. Sport is expensive enough. And we all get in this mindset of strength…but strength only belongs in certain places.

Good Video, but self tapping screws, thats a hard pass, drilling out factory and nutserting is one thing, reusing factory holes with pop in like factory would have been the way to go, these seem like they just used the easiest thing possible. I would not say they are the best.
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Жыл бұрын
It works. I have rubbed them on rocks…folded them on rocks and trees…and the pop back into shape without any body damage. It’s common to drill out for aftermarket fenders to add nuts and bolts or self tapers. The self tapers for these work because they are so light weight. No other fender can take the abuse these do and keep their shape without body damage. If you know of one…let me know.

Agree on not using tube fenders!!! You're dead right on possible damage to the jeep. But, agree with the comments below about self-tapping screws -- wonder why MCE didn't use nutserts instead. Would definitely recommend buying/using those if you get the fenders. Also wonder how hard it would be to re-use the factory holes (another reason to go w/ nutserts).instead of drilling Love 🥰MCE makes the fenders in the USA. I'm in the market for fenders and will reach out to them!!

I like them for the look and do run plastic fenders for the flex when rubbing. What I don’t like is that they didn’t use factory mounting points and force you to drill more holes? Other than that good looking a decent price fenders!

@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the support! The rock sliders are actually made by a company that stopped making jeep parts about a year ago. They are called VKS. They might start making parts again. But there are a couple other companies that make similar ones.

Hey Dan, little off topic but just wondering if you know the rough curb weight of Maple leaf JKU?I’m trying to get in the ball park to put front leafs on my 1st gen Tundra on 1tons. Currently weighing around 4900Lbs, 6050gvwr and 3160 front gvw. Will be adding winch and bumper. Most guys use chevy 47” lift springs or 52”. I like the idea of your grand wagoner leafs with the longer end to the rear. May work on the tundra and give more flex and comfort. or a rear grand wagoner lift spring ? Any suggestions would be awesome. Very inspired by the leaf JKU built. A video on spring rates and load rating 🤔 thanks!!
@WarPaintOffroad
@WarPaintOffroad Жыл бұрын
Hey! So the front end of the JKU was 2940 with the Dana 44 and 38’s on beadlocks. So subtract about 750 pounds for the axle and wheel/tire weight. But it also didn’t have a bumper or a winch on it at that point either. Thanks for the support brother! (I respond faster in Instagram)
