Some people leave the radiators in place, just unbolt them from the frame, leave hoses connected, pull them out of the way the best you can with zip ties. The first time doing it, I'd remove them just so you can see everything easier. Some don't bother with the TDC bolt either, once you know how to find it, it's not totally necessary. I like using a straw in the spark plug hole to eyeball TDC.

Great video, a few questions from a newb. 1. Once the TDC bolt is all the way in, can you check both the intakes and exhausts without having to rotate rear tire? Can you check all 4 at once? 2. If the TDC bolt is all the way in does this gaurentee you're at TDC and not an overlap? 3. Do I need to drain the oil to remove the TDC bolt and reinsert without the washer? Thanks!

#1 yes you can adj. All 4 in this position. #2 no it doesn't guaranty, it still needs to be on compression stroke. #3 no need to drain oil

@loribaggins9590 how do the rockers react when its on compression stroke? Do they click and move or are they all stiff? Thanks.

Straight to the point. I'm new to ktm and my bike has been down for weeks because I didn't know what valve shim size to get for my rfs engine. JOKES ON ME!

If you’re not sure you have TDC, then use the crank case hole to find the timing mark.

I don't know why, but I found the straw flying out was hilarious. Great vid tho

For the young guys ,,,if the valve spacing is tight on first inspection it means there is wear at the valve and seat most likely,, loose is above the valve so cam and rocker stuff. At the same time I spec your chain tensioner Peace on diirt

Timely video. I wasnt sure if I was tdc-c or 360 off, this has sorted things out. I wasnt expecting the valves to spring back so hard.

I'm not confident I have the right TDC. Both intake and exhaust valves should have play in them, right? I can find that spot for the exhaust valves, but never find play in the intakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@@SpartanBadger616 can you please elaborate a bit more how to find TDC this way? Thanks.

thanks for sharing the video. though technically this is a video on how to check the clearances, and not a video of actually adjusting the valves :D There's no actual video of adjusting the valves. I can imagine how it should be done, but i'm such a noob that this video doesn't actually show me what i was looking for.

0.13mm? In the manual it says 0.12mm for the 525sx and the 450sx/exc
@matzi9662 Жыл бұрын
Looks like a rounding mistake from the imperial Units. It should be 0.12mm but he is using a 0.005" feeler gauge which has 0.127mm which rounds up to 0.13mm

I have the locking pin in, and play in the exhaust but intake has no play, do both need play or just the exhaust?

Thanks, I've been told that even with the bolt all the way in (without the washer) there's only a 50/50 chance you're at true TDC. Is there anyway to assure you're at true TDC, any marks to look at? Would the clicking sound at all 4 valves guarantee you're the right TDC?
