One of the best things about watching those Celtics was Bill Walton's sheer joy at playing with such a great team. The man had a tragically short career, and he's gone far too soon, but he savored every moment that he had.

I met him late one night in Munich. I saw a 7 foot redhead walking through the Hofbrauhaus. I followed him out, and said "Bill Walton?" He turned around and "Hey. What's up" walked off into the darkness. I always wondered where he was going.

EXCELLENT Video!! Thank you so much! Love everything about it. Brought a tear of joy to my eye. What a great story. Thank you for encapsulating, contextualizing and spotlighting this. Walton wrapped it up perfectly with his comment at the end. I can't wait to save and recommend this. Well done. ☘️ Larry Legend

It was fun to watch Bill Walton's enthusiasm as he recalled those games. I was glued to those games watching the best team ever. Larry's basketball prowess was like watching a Grand Champion chess player as he would surgically take opposing teams apart. Bill Walton's passing skills for a big man were fun to watch as it was a duel between Bird and Walton as to who would come up with the best pass.

I don't remember the win over the Hawks, but I'm sure old Hawks fans do. Wooof, that a dagger in the back. What a team the Cs had. The passing between Bird and Walton was surreal. Talk about high IQ guys.

It was great to see Bill Walton be healthy enough to play for the Celtics. When Walton and Larry played together is was magical. Larry was my P.E. assistant when I was a nerdy little 8th grader and Larry was a Sr. at Springs Valley High School in French Lick, In. Yes, I am a "Hick From French Lick". There is a NEW book about Larry's high school years titled "As If By Magic" which is in reference of the transition Larry went through between his Jr. and Senior year. As a Jr. Larry was a 6ft 2" guard 15 ppg. When Larry walked back onto the court his Sr. year he was 6ft 7" averaged over 33 ppg, over 20 rebounds his passing and ball handling were unlike anything "we" as in the "Hick's of French Lick" had ever seen. Larry was deadly from deep in the corner and keep in mind there was no 3 point line. The book "As If By Magic" is written by author Randy Mills. It is obvious Mills did a lot of serious research. Interviews with not only Larry's teammates, coaches, friends Larry played with at the French Lick and West Baden outdoor parks with. He(Mills) even interviewed some of Larry's biggest rivals in high school. Amazing stories. Box scores, news stories from several newspapers and photos I have never seen before. Larry was blessed with family, friends, teachers, coaches and towns people who believed in him. This is the BEST Larry Bird book I've ever read. You can find it on Amazon, Barns and Noble and just about anywhere books are sold.
