"Fossil hunting is weird." Yes, yes it is. I've made some of the weirdest faces, twisted my body into the weirdest positions, had the weirdest substances is my mouth, and found some of the weirdest things that weren't fossils - all while fossil hunting. And that's what makes it so much fun. Super-happy for y'all and your new location! I really don't know how y'all restrain yourselves from just taking everything at one time!

The tooth you find at 7:10 looks like a peccary upper canine. I would need a better look at it to be sure though.
@PaleoCris3 жыл бұрын
It does have that look, but it’s somewhat small and also probably Miocene in age. I found one the same day that has a wear pattern similar to what I’ve seen with peccary too. I’m just not familiar with what in the Miocene may have had teeth like that.
@stephengroff6333 жыл бұрын
@@PaleoCris I collect the miocene of Maryland, peccary are the most common land mammal fossils up here. The tooth is the right size and shape to be peccary, I just can't see if it has the diagnostic features of a peccary tooth. Tbh I can't really think of any other land mammals with teeth quite like that one, other than peccary, although I'm no expert on miocene land mammals.
@PaleoCris3 жыл бұрын
@@stephengroff633 very good info. I was also initially struck by the similarity it had to peccary, but was unfamiliar with the Miocene peccaries from this area. I’ll research them now, but I do agree that it is the most likely ID on that tooth.
