I love this kind of conversation as everyone has so many different answers for so different reasons. For me personally it’s either Devin Townsend as his voice is completely breathtaking no matter if he’s bellowing an operatic tenor style singing voice or growling out his metal vocal which is somehow still reminiscent of a singing voice. It’s even more amazing live too. Or Jamie Graham for similar but different reasons, and just because I love every band he joins, and he’s been in some great ones.

Corey Taylor, Chester Bennington, Howard Jones, Jesse Leach, Amy Lee are my choices. But there's so fucking many ridiculous vocalists who could be singers in other genres it's such a blessing to have for the metal genre.

Phil Anselmo. He runs the whole spectrum. From super high operatic Halford vocals in the early years to pretty much Death Metal vocals in later Pantera albums and everything in between. Also played a huge part in screaming becoming acceptable in mainstream music.

Where can I hear Phil's operatic vocals?
@jbones9308
@jbones9308 Жыл бұрын
@@heelgill He does a little bit of them on some songs on Cowboys from hell but the album Power Metal has a lot of high belted out vocals with lots of vibrato. Very similiar to a Rob Halford painkiller style, thrashier at times.

As a person who is not super familiar with Metallica's catalogue, I gotta say James' vocal performance on their cover of Turn the page singlehandedly convinced me of his vocal qualities. So much bite, so much grit, yet so much emotion. Man, he really does sell that track!

Right now, Travis Ryan. He’s kept his vocals in the realm of Death Metal, but still elevated his skill in a way that adds emotion while keeping this eerie and beautiful intensity.

As someone who was 5 years old when Black Sabbath first appeared for me the 'greatest' vocalist was Dio. As a kid I heard his work in Elf, Rainbow, Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, Sabbath, and his solo stuff. I can get into all kinds of metal with normal or growling or screaming but Dio is still my favorite.

Through Glass and the entire Iowa album pretty much prove why Corey Taylor is the best metal vocalist of all time, his range and the power of his voice are above anyone else’s

Iowa alone proves he belongs in the conversation. He’s not doing some cartoonish guttural bullshit performance, he’s genuinely screaming in sheer anger and ripped through his goddamn vocal chords doing so.

I'm sad no one said Phil... I know some people don't want to praise him but this is about greatest VOCALISTS, not personalities. His range, especially back in the day is INSANE. Not as amazing nowadays, but still. I'm glad how much Corey got love though. He is basically as talented as Phil. They are my two favorites in metal (also goes for the bands they front) I'm a massive Chino fan aswell but i wouldn't necessarily call him a metal vocalist, as Deftones is also not purily a metal band.

I will say Phil Anselmo has crazy range, people usually talk about his regular or more falsetto high pitched vocals. But he can sing melodically like in his band Down or do straight guttural death metal and punk vocals his stuff in Superjoint Ritual is insane
