That's called a "cocktail drum kit", and is often used for portability, or to reduce the amount of stage space taken by the drummer. Great reaction, BTW. New subscriber (after starting with your "Hi Ren" reaction).

They are so good that they can control the balance themselves but I am convinced that they hired a sound engineer for this. Possibly only two microphones but well placed. That's how the record industry once started, though even simpler, and it undeniably sounds good if you're dealing with the right musicians.
