Finally, the Space Engineers mod that I've always wanted is here. This is the Fully Retractable Landing Gear by KillerBee77, and it's fantastic. Check it out in this video. It even locks to surfaces.

Thanks for reviewing. 😀 Also, they will deploy on their own but you have to be within "Ready to Lock" distance. I had to make this distance rather small otherwise it would try to play animations when you didn't want them to play. Its a bit of a useless feature I also just cycle On/Off to redeploy it for landing.

@@silentzoner267 that one has issues with some builds trust me i have it most times on my own servers the bug is weird and random but we have had ships using them unlock when the server has restarted or at random points fall off our super carrier which has a landing area that is the full sized earth star base made into a ship with the platforms sections fully joined into one massive landing pad

There were a couple of retractable landing gear mods that did the exact same thing - locked to the object etc. The issue with all of them came from lack of suspension, so unless you had it set to auto-lock, it would simply crumple under the weight of the ship after a certain size. Which made me start making custom landing gear from rotors, pistons and regular wheel suspensions with magnetic pads at the bottom xD

MA PocketGear is another working retractable landing gear mod and has apparently been around a couple years. Doesn't use Animation Engine, functionally it's like a rotor with magnetic plate on it, but with suspension apparently. The unusual thing about it compared to regular blocks, is that when placing one it has 3 parts to weld up. Base, leg, and foot. No automatic deployment, but event controllers could handle that.

That's the one I've been using for long time too, I just wish the suspension was stronger because I like the mechanic of it. This new landing gear has an invisible hitbox where the foot of the gear would be which is a little annoying but it still does a good job of looking and functioning good!

Not anymore. Just corrupts saves now. Something they did with automation must have made rotors finicky with magnets.

@@CaptPatrick01 They still work fine for me. A "corrupt save" may not actually be corrupt, it just means SE encountered an error while loading the save. Searching through the log file for instances of the word Exception (with a capital E) can give you more info about what the error is and potentially how to fix it. It could be a different mod has issues, or it could be a combination of mods that don't work together. (The only actual corrupt save I've encountered was caused by a computer dying while in the middle of saving the game. And a backup still worked on the replacement computer, though it required some manual file copying to get it to be usable.)

Killer's blocks are some of the best I've used in space engineers. The VXM missiles, coilgun batteries, and iron maidens are my favourite weapons; they pack a hell of a punch, and their animations are just superb.

Also weight of the engines would out weigh the front part of the ship :P So you wouldn't need front gears :P cost savings!

"always wanted" ? I've been using them for years. Retractable Landing Gear by Takeshi since August '17. Not insulting this mod, as it is awesome and the more the merrier, but it ain't a new idea. And Takeshi has a 1x1 in there as well

@@CaptainJack and Takeshi has had this, nearly, exact same retractable one since 2017. This one is slightly beefier, so better for bigger ships. They also have a 1x1 piston type, and the larger (3x1 iirc) piston type, and doesn't need animation engine.

The whole point is you make them yourself, you have everything you need: pistons, hinges, rotors and landing gear

Its good the hit box is not there. with other type mods the hit box is there and what makes it weird is when the gear is retracted you then clip onto what is not there. So I like it. its not totally as real as it can be, but SE is a game and not real life.

People really need to stop using the animation engine to make mods like this, it makes the game more and more unstable with the more you use to the point that it can corrupt game saves

Never experienced that myself at this point :) With this game you should take regular backups tbh
