I'm 75.....in 1938, my mother and her sister were escorted to a "concert" at a nearby theatre......they lived in Detroit.....they were breathless to hear all their favorite songs and the groups they had been singing to for a few years. They were surprised there were so many black young folks there to hear the same groups that my pillsbury dough boy relatives were there to hear...... Then the curtain went up and they were astounded to SEE all the groups they had grown to love were also all black.....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Suddenly we had lots of friends at our block parties from the "alphabet" neighborhood....A-st....C-st L-st..........yes life played a joke on everyone.....we were all Mixed in our neighborhood on Montclair Ave, off Kercheval. Everyone from a different country....my piano teacher was French and her only English words were, " no, no Susie." Then she would demonstrate. Next door from Greece, across the street from Palermo, Italy, 5 doors up from us from Assyria which had just been absorbed by Syria......but now when the families scheduled a block party, My uncles would put the word out in the alphabets, Party on Montclair Ave, sunday after church...bring a covered dish. The Italians cooked a pig in the ground 😳....I had NEVER heard of that.....it went into the ground on friday, if I recall and was all dressed out for dinner on sunday......and all the music arrived from the alphabets and a joyous time was had by all.....dining room tables end to end down the middle of the street.....w sheets for tablecloths.😊😋😁☺️😍😄 Sweet sweet memories of 70 yrs ago....💝💝💝💝💝 Catholics, Baptists, Holiness, Pentecostal, 1st Elijah Ebenezer Apostolic Alliance,......🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 It was a great time to be alive.......🖐🏻👵🏻 Great show, precious memories.....Sweet Bye and Bye, Beulah Land, old rugged Cross...🙌🏻💝👑

@@wildlifegardenssydney7492 it was a very happy time☺️. And I met a little girl named Bea,....we were both 6 yrs old.....she was the only black child in our school, St Rose of Lima. I think God made that arrangement so I Would have Bea and she would have me. We're in our 70s and we're still friends. We both live in Florida now.....when I'm home in Jacksonville, we go to her church❤❤❤❤❤we're besties......🙆🏾♀️🙆🏻♀️--->👵🏾👵🏻 🤭 After a couple years in Detroit we moved w my fathers job and Bea and I were penpals until we were able to get together in later years.....that was in the early 50s and she's the only black person I ever got to know until desegregation in the 60s....which was a very tense time indeed......she greatly affected my life💞 We were just little girls and while she had some bad experiences w racism, even at 6.....I had never experienced that. I remember feeling very protective about the few black students who came to our high school in the 60s......I didnt want any of Our students to treat anyone w disdain or say mean things to them. THEN, a Junior, named Noel was on our basketball team, but I did notice the coach didn't let Noel play much..😔...well, let me tell you....when we went to regionals, we were getting our Sox's beat off by the other team😬.....and in the last quarter, The coach put Noel in to pla He hit one basket after another after another and pulled us ahead and we WON our regionals!!!😲.... Let me tell you, Indiana used to have a very strong KKK. There were a lot of hard feelings in the 60s.... But when Noel pulled our team out of the mud like that and we WON.....there was a complete flip in feelings about one another. The ball team LOVED Noel... Everyone wanted to be his friend.....and I was a sophomore and I started asking the black girls if any of THEM were cheer leaders at THEIR school.....of COURSE they were. So I went to our English teacher who was very PRO desegregation and asked her if she would bring it up To the powers that be, so that the black girls could "try out" when all the others had try outs.....WELL, she did me one better. She told the school board that we should enlarge our cheering squad to take in all 4 of the team from the other school. It WAS a great time to be alive......😁.....and our cheering squad had 1 black girl, one blondie, 1 black girl, 1 redhead, I black girl, 1 pale frail .......we LOOKED great out on the floor for half time!!!😁.....I was in band, not cheer squad...but boy they looked so sharp... Noel pulling our team out of the dumps like that, and us winning our regionals really helped to smooth things out at an uneasy time in our history... In a little country town in Indiana.......☺️......and we quit calling ea other black and white too.....which made things so much more peaceful.....❤
